KBC contestant withdraws suicide threat
Divya Pal, TNN | Oct 15, 2011, 12.00AM ISTAparna Malikar had appeared on "Kaun Banega Crorepati 5", won '6,40,000 and received extra monetary help of '50,000 from Big B.
Following harassment by in-laws, she recently wrote a letter to Sonia Gandhi pleading for help, which if hadn't been granted, she'd have killed herself. The latest is that she has withdrawn her threat, as her in-laws are willing to co-operate.
Aparna, who hails from Vidarbha, Maharashtra, had earlier told us that her brother-in-law, a local Congress leader, had been harassing her, eyeing her money, leaving her with no option but to kill herself. "My brother-in-law has been accusing me of not taking care of my daughters. Frankly, he can't believe that I won a huge amount on the show. That's why he has been telling the villagers that someone else was supposed to appear on the show," she rued. In her letter, she had talked about the atrocities done to her by her in-laws and the troubles of 8,000 widows from farmer families in Vidarbha.
Won't this create further problems for her? "My in-laws have agreed to co-operate with me and even told me that they'd withdraw the case filed by them against my father Arun Tathe and brother Amol Tathe accusing them of killing my husband."
