thanks โค๏ธ I enjoy writing. it makes me happy. sometimes I get carried away though. ๐Ÿ˜‚ hahahah...

but yea, there is a literary term called "catharsis" which means the process of releasing repressed emotions. within literature, the great greek tragedies (plays) were written with the intent to make people cry. basically release all the emotions they are feeling. at the time, there was a culture of being stoic within greek society -- basically holding all your emotions in. so people needed a space where they can release those emotions and the objective of these tragedies was not just to entertain, but it was to give catharsis. so that was the origins and intent behind plays from the start.

greek plays were the ultimate soap operas. if we wonder where ITV and all the soaps get their origin from, greek plays were it. the dumbest of twists and everyone marrying within the same family. it is just they were written so beautifully that it became literature. even shakespeare plays are the same. remove the writing and just look at the story -- unbelievable soaps. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

so the idea that current dramas make us happy or sad and gives us those space to feel those emotions still holds true. so catharsis in and of itself is a good thing. being part of a drama community can be a good thing. it is when it crosses unhealthy levels, then it becomes something negative. like all things we enjoy whether it is food, people's company, sports or drama, moderation is good. :)

I have decided there is something off with the chaska rating. I don't trust it. I won't name the drama but there is one there has zero engagement. and when I mean zero, nothing besides written updates. but even on the written updates, hardly anyone reacts or even comments. the forum is dead and I mean dead. the hall of fame is totally empty many days because there are no members posting anything. but yet, it is there on that list. how is that possible? and it is not just IF but even in birde, hardly anything talks about the drama. so it shouldn't be on that list at all. ๐Ÿ˜ก

conclusion: that chaska meter is off. ๐Ÿคท

Wow your insight on catharsis was on point! It so clearly explains the psychological reasons why we suddenly get obsession with a show/movie etc. Thatโ€™s basically me with Katha Ankahee. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think another reason this show strangely draws me in is Viaanโ€™s character. I havenโ€™t really been the one to support the โ€œbad boy.โ€ I have always really liked the โ€œgood guyโ€ in any show/movie (yup, I preferred Stefan over Damon in Vampire Diaries ๐Ÿ˜‚). But this is one of the only shows in which I have rooted for a very grey character like Viaan. And me rooting for him despite his problematic offer actually made me question about my beliefs. Also, the process of him going from the typical bad guy to the good guy is a big as to why Iโ€™m so looking forward for the episodes each time. So you can guess my disappointment whenever Viaan doesnโ€™t get as much screen time. ๐Ÿ˜•
Or instead of all this analysis, maybe I just like Viaan because Adnan is cute

hahahaha... ofcourse we are also shallow when it comes to choosing which dramas to watch. to be honest, my first reaction on hearing about the original dizi was "this guy is bald and not good to look at.. how did this become a hit?" ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ not to say that I am against bald guys -- I think Rock is good looking ๐Ÿ˜‚ but not this dizi actor. but yea, after watching clips of the dizi, I thought "okay I get the pull of the drama" -- really more about acting and writing.

but yea, I like the bad boys more because I feel they have the most fun acting. that is what one popular villain actor said. he does not have all these hero desi restrictions and can be as stupid as he likes to show the character. and people do love villains. this particular villain actor got as many whistles in the theatre as the hero. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
