I want to be known as a media mogul: Ektaa Kapoor

Birthday gal Ektaa Kapoor talks about the year ahead — entry of the new Tulsi in 'Kyunkii...', fresh projects and her wish-list.

It's not going to be a mega birthday celebration for the prime time princess today. Producer Ektaa Kapoor who has just returned from a holiday in Mauritius dismisses any festivity, "No birthday plans — it's only going to be work! There are two new serials coming up — 'Kasturi' in July and 'Kis Rishtey Se' in August. I'm busy with them. While 'Kasturi' is about a small-town girl placed in a city, the latter focuses on the relationship between two sisters."

Krishna Tulsi
But coinciding with her birthday will be the screen-birth of Krishna Tulsi, played by debutant Moni Roy in 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Roy will essay the role of the new generation bahu of the Virani family in the show's 20-year-leap as Tulsi (Smriti Z Irani) takes over Ba's (Sudha Shivpuri) mantle. Ektaa divulges stringently about the new discovery, "Krishna Tulsi will be Tulsi's mirror image. She's perky and has a warm face. Moni was selected in the second audition. She's a Jamia Millia Islamia student."

Musings
Looking back today, Ektaa sifts her milestone moments, "I felt happy when I recovered the losses that I had caused my father (Jeetendra) in my early years. Other moments include winning my first award, 'Kyunkii…' turning out to be a top show and Tusshar's (Kapoor) hit debut film."

Ektaa confesses, "I have made mistakes too. Because of my temper I have got into fights and lost out on some good people. I've tried to make amends. But destiny follows its course and sometimes the moment is gone forever."

Mission
Though Ektaa has often been accused of regressive portrayals in her shows, she says it all seems worthwhile. "Old people come up to me and say that their lonely evenings are made by watching my serials," she says. What makes Ektaa hang on even in the most hardnosed circumstances is her fathers' advice, "You should never wish for the proverbial Sunday. For when it comes, it never goes away."

Ask her what tops her wish-list today and the Midas maiden declares, "I want to be known as a media mogul synonymous with quality in advertising, television and cinema"
