Hi, soooo sorry for the huge delay, I procrastinated from studying and
wrote down the next 2 parts in my study break so they are not the best of
parts but I promise next time will be better and much much sooner! This
part is a bit different, but I felt like had to write it because its very
nessecary for the plot line Ive thought of, Im not sure if you guys will like
it but feel free to post your opinions about it, I ll defintley appreciate it,
positive or negative.
Recap: Adi also left the Aggarwal household smiling. He was happy his
planned seemed to have worked, but something was still tugging at his
heart, saddening him…as he walked out he had seen Metalli and praney
hugging each other.
Part7
Light poured into the dimly lit room illuminating the dust in the air… the
musty smell made his nose twitch. He didn't come here very often and
seldom without coercion…He knew today was no different… He moved
his hands over the dusty covers barely acknowledging them, and
randomly selected various books creating gaping holes in the symmetrical
collection that lined the shelves…Why oh why do I have to be here…sigh..
his gaze glided over numerous unappealing titles…feminist philosophy,
passion and law, epic love…geez these were some of the sappiest books
ever…he almost felt ashamed to be in this section of the library…but he
knew he had no choice…he remembered the events of the morning with
much annoyance…Maiteli in her 'mahanta ka chakar' had reported him to
the dragon lady, janki devi for not submitting his research paper on
time…he knew it was his fault, but the topic had just been so damn
hard…The philosophy of law and love; compare and contrast….what did
he know about that…he fidgeted with his watch as he continued
ambiguously scanning the shelves while pondering over his thoughts…he
was here to study law.. not love!...And Maitli…so what if it was her
responsibility to ensure everyones papers got in on time…she didn't
always have to do the right thing…he knew was wrong, but he decided to
continue the crabby complaining in his head anyway…Lady D: D for Devi
and D for dragon, he chuckled inside.. it was lame but it was one of his
favorite nicknames for their dreaded trustee… He lifted a big encylopedia
off the shelf and was about to turn when he noticed something through
the gaping hole where the encylopedia once lay…..Maithli, in a sparkling
white and sapphire churidar ……and Praney ,in his usual dull attire…
whispering into each others ears…smiling…she lightly touched his arm
and they both laughed softly…he grimaced…here we go again…they
seem to be having a jolly old time…laughing at their private jokes....these
two lovebirds deserve to be in this aisle only…they should get a room..he
couldn't help thinking in an almost spitefully self-destructive way…he
turned and moved a couple of aisles down before any unwanted thoughts
could take over his brain again..
He felt squeamish in the stiff air of the library, almost nauseated…he
stared down at his hands…were they looking slightly yellow..he knew he
was acting like a hypochondriac but he wanted "out', and he wanted it
now… he lazily flexed his muscles before continuing to carelessly flick
books here and there…
"Vikram Aditya Mehra!" thundered a voice behind…
Uh oh…not Lady D again…what this time…he sighed and painstakingly
turned to face the onslaught…
Instead of the growling face and murderous glare he expected, he was
greeted by cheery eyes and giggles galore….
He let out the breath of air he was unknowingly holding..
"Uhm…Vikram Aditya Mehra…!" she tried again with a stern voice but
dissolved into a giggle fit.
He sighed,
"Uff… What is it Mehzbeen Maheen Khan?!" he exclaimed....
She continued giggling, failing miserably at keeping a serious expression
on..
Adi: Mahi! I cant believe you! You scared the living daylights out of
me….he lightly shoved her shoulder…Mahi man, seriously, not cool! He
stuck his tongue out at her.
She shoved him back,
Mahi: Adi! I ve bee whispering, "Adi, Adi" for the last 15 minutes, but you
were so lost in your own thoughts you din hear me..which girl were you
thinking about now huh?…anyways, it doesn't matter, keeping track of
your love life is too tiresome… But Adi! what in the world are you doing?
Its such a beautiful day outside, and your stuck inside? I mean seriously?
Answer my questions you fool! By the way, I heard what happened with
Janki Devi and her secretary and all...but tell me..
Adi: Mahi, SHUT UP!
He smiled wryly and continued,
Adi: Wanna leave… it's a loong sotry, he said winking at her.
Mahi: But ofcourse she said returning his smile.
He put his arm around her warmly and playfully tried to choke her in the
crook of his arm as they walked out and into the sunlight…he gazed up at
the sunlight and smiled down fondly at the bubbly petite girl struggling
to free herself…she was his oldest friend, his bestest friend…the only girl
he could never ever even think of being attracted to…she was too good a
friend for that…after all they had grown up playing with his action figures
and her stuffed animals…they would secretly trade toys, never revealing
that they enjoyed the others toy as much as their own…she was like a
sister, a twin….
He knew he had created different circles of intimacy in his
life and there was absolutely no one in the innermost circles… not even
mahi…but she had come the closest to being near those interior
caverns…no one truly, fully knew him…but she knew him better than
anyone else uptill now…there was a void inside of him…but even she
could never fill that… and he didn't want her to…the void was for
someone different…he wondered who…and if someone would ever even
fill it…
"Whoosh!" He felt the wind being sucked out of him…those tiny little fists
had delivered quite a sucker punch to the chest…he fell to the ground in
a mock heart attack…My heart…I think you just broke it…it hurts…and
burns….oh Mahi!.. She giggled…and his attention seeking side
thoroughly enjoyed the show he was putting on…he tried to look up but
his view from the ground was tainted by the strong sun light …in the
periphery of his vision he could see a few people watching their 'usual'
antics…Losers…
He let his eyes wander as they adjusted for themselves…..and then the
sapphire of her duppatta caught his attention…it flew in the wind like it
had a life of its own…she struggled hard with it, but she wasn't really
giving it her full attention..she was pretending to gain control of it but
was really watching him from the corner of her eye….like he couldn't tell,
…he watched her intently..there was absolutely no doubt about it in his
mind….. she was beautiful…her face sparkled against the sun like fresh
water in an oasis…there was a soft innocence to her face..almost child
like... her whole persona reflected a purity that ricochet onto him…he was
stunned…..the wind suddenly picked up and her duppata flew off and
slowly rested on his face…he closed his eyes…..the cool air rippled
against the dupatta and he felt invigorated….oh Maitli why are you so god
damn beautiful… it makes it that much harder to hate you….the
sweetness of her smell radiated off the sapphire and he breathed it all
in…he felt in a state of bliss…he just wanted to lie there forever….
He suddenly felt a dark shadow come across him….and in a instant his
tranquility was savagely snatched and replaced by the menacing glower of
the sun…he squinted up… she stood above him holding her dupatta in
her hands…her eyes pierced through his soul…he felt the wrath and fury
in them burning down on him…she placed the duppata back in its rightful
place and walked away without a backward glance….her departure left a
deafening silence in his ears … somewhere in the back of his mind he
could hear inane chatter….he felt frustrated…and …something
resembling…hurt…he sensed his eyes welling up a little…tears…nah it
was jus the glare of the sun, he convinced himself…he brushed his
thoughts away in denial, blinked his eyes rapidly to force away whatever it
was that was there and bit on his quivering lip…he felt like a young child
trying to hide a big bad secret…even though he was still yet to
understand what this 'big bad secret' within him was…the secret which
was tormenting him so much…but instead he succumbed to the jealousy
and hurt within him and childishly resorted to the age old sin of
vengance…
He looked up at Mahi who had been continuing their role play without his
awareness for the last couple of minutes…she was standing above him
and smiled as she continued to mock him…he decided it was time for him
to step in…a decision partly guided by the fact that even though he
couldn't see Maithli..he knew she was somewhere in the vicinity…he
could just feel her still watching them…He stretched his hand towards
Mahi….your punch… it broke my heart to
pieces…Mahi laughed and took Adi's hand in hers…
Mahi: Oh no…the world's biggest heartbreakers heart just broke…
Adi: If my heart is not in one piece how will it ever be able to speak..
Mahi: Oh Adi, your heart could never express itself anyways, it being
broken has nothing to do with…
Part 8
Maithli walked away from there…she could only hear reminants of Adi's
show now….Urghhh…this Mahi…..Adi always seemed to be with her…
they seemed to have some sort of dumb bond…why…why was she always
with him…fooling around.. and Adi... they always looked like they were
having sooo much fun together.. she was…what…why…she felt at a loss
for words….she sensed something prickling her eyes…and a wet streak
on her face…was she crying….God…how much he frustrated her….he had
brought her to a few tears…and why….because…because…he was jus
annoying her, doing things on purpose, disrupting the social norm of the
college..and..and she felt responsible as the secretary of the trustee…. Oh
bullshit…that wasn't exactly true and she knew it…dammit why did he
manage to always get under her skin….she had seen them in the library
together…and…surreptiously followed them out.. and then h..
"Maitilli!"
She quickly brushed away her tears.
Maitilli: Yes Janki Maam..
Janki Devi: Please bring Vikram Aditya Mehra to my office immediately.
Maitilli: Uh but why maam..
Janki Devi: That really is none of your business..
Maitelli felt flustered and didn't know what to do..even though he was the
biggest pain in the neck, she felt the need to defend him in his absence.
Mettilli: Maam, they were just joking around, I mean it was just a joke,
and she was just holding his hand and they were only fooling around he
didn't really have a heart attack..and I mean theres nothi..
Janki Devi: Maitilli, please! What are you on about? Who's holding who's
hand..and who had a heart attach because of that..i cant understand, is
there something I should know..
Maitilli a little startled and highly embarrassed at how absorbed she was
in her personal thoughts, stuttered..
Mettili: Uh maam, no nothing sorry..i got confused..i ll just get him I
guess…
Janki Devi: You don't GUESS! You GO! NOW!
As Mettili left Janki Devi's office Janki sat there smiling and thinking to
herself…that girl.. its so obvious she likes him, I think everybody knows it
except for her…and him…Adi…my Mayuris son….sigh…its my
responsibility to set him on the right path…he's like..he's like my
grandson…but he breaks my heart…sometimes he toys with girls feelings
and he has done some terrible things in the past to Mettili and then on
the other hand he is the most loving son a mother could ask for…I don't
know what to think… he seems so shut down, in the middle of all the
action but at the same time.. far away from the world…the trauma's he's
been through…witnessing a murder…spending most of his life with a
mentally unwell mother…a stoic father…the most juvenile grandmother,
our dearest Rajeshwari…no…I cant let him waver….he is my responsibility
now..as my student and as mayuri's son. along with all my other
grandkids, he needs to be taught a few lessons in human emotions…I will
take care of him..
As Janki Devi was deep in thought Mettili was a bundle of nerves as she
fitfully made her way over to Adi. She found him sitting lopsidedly on his
bike with Mahi…they seemed deep in conversation.
She didn't want to go over but at the same time she was dying to know
what they were talking about. She finally tapped him on his shoulder..
Metilli: Adi…uhm, Janki Maam is calling you to her office right now..
Adi: Oh god…Lady-D…again….!
Metilli: Adi! Don't call her that, you say that now, but you don't know her
at all…and when you do you'll regret it..
Adi: Actually I do know her quite well…when it comes to things like my
mother she is Lady- Devi…incredible..
but then thanks to you, he said dripping with sarcasm, I ve come to know
her on a personal level as well in the past..and when it comes to me, she
does tandav on my head and becomes Lady-Dragon…so she is my Lady-
D darlin.
Mettilli spat out: Don't, just don't darlin me…I am not like your "other
girls" okay..she said giving Mahi a sideways glance.
Adi caught that..
Adi: My 'other girls'…? He said cocking his eyebrow up..
Mettili: your..your…frivolous affairs and flirty friends…
Metilli couldn't believe she had been bold enough to say that…she
peeked a glance to gage Mahi's reaction..she really hadn't meant to
offend her but her previous jealousy and frustration had trickled in..
It upset Adi that anyone would think such things about Mahi…and it
upset Adi that Mettili especially thought of him as baseless…sure the
'player' status had often elevated his ego and given him a superiority
complex amongst his male colleagues, but only some of it was true…and
a lot of it was a myth..but that hadn't quite bothered him before..
Adi: First of all you have NO right to judge me or Mahi…and second….its
not tr
Mahi interrupted him: Adi forget it, it doesn't matter, there are 2 sides to
every story.
But he continued with one last retort,
Adi: And its not any of your business..
Mettili was seething by this time: Lets just go!
Adi: Fine!
Mettili: Fine!
In the office:
Janki Devi: Vikram Aditya Mehra, do you know why you are here
Adi: if its about the heart attack, Mahi and..
Janki Devi: Oh godd! Enough about this heart attack! I don care whos
heart you attacked or who broke who's hand or heart or whatever!
Now listen very carefully, It has come to my notice that you did not hand
in your research paper…do you know how incredibly important that is to
our curriculum vitae at this college? It has put a hole in your record and I
am going to make sure you fill that whole up!
Adi:…great..
Janki: Don't take a tone with me Mr. Mehra, this is for your own benefit.
You will finish that thesis paper: The philosophy of Law and Love. We
have a fantastic library at your disposal..
As soon as she said the words library Adi felt sick again remembering the
nauseating day he spent there,
Adi: But maam..love..law
Janki: I am NOT done! The thesis is not sufficient to fill this lovely hole
you have created in your record now. You need some DIVERSIFIED
extracurricular activities…sports isn't good enough, your resume should
display a well-rounded personality. SO from now on you will participate in
EVERY event that I tell you to. The first one being the organization of the
Music Festival.. you need some "constructive" leadership skills, not just
your 'dada-giri' type of thing…And these are orders no questions asked if
you want to maintain your seat in this college!
Adi chuckled inwardly at her dada-giri comment, she could be such a
cute grandma-ish Lady-D at times, so old-school, but on the other hand
she was acting like a tyrant:
Janki Devi: Vikram-Aditya! Are u listening to me??!
Adi: But maam…a music festival..how can I..I don't know how…I have no
experience..and the thesis..love
Janki: First Vikram-Aditya Mehra, I said no questions… *Sigh*….now that
you've asked them…obviously I don't expect you to handle the whole
thing on your own..I would never take such a risk, that was such a daft
question, you'll be working with my secretary to coordinate all
this..Mettilli..youdo know her don't you, she said giving him a pointed
glare.
Adi:….uh…
Janki continued: And love..thats for you to figure out the relationship
between love and law..its time you ponder over such things, discover your
OWN opinion on such things, that is what makes a good research
paper..and don't worry… thesis likhte likhte aur music festival ki
tayariyaan karte karte tum sabh seekh jaaoge.
Now please leave.
Adi left flabbergasted…he couldn't believe it, what a mess!...He saw the
two leading ladies of his plot waiting for him outside: the friend and the
villain, mahi and mettilli, he thought.
Mahi and Mettilli simultaneously: What happened?!
Adi to Mettelli: What happened….you tell me what happened…I helped
you with Pragati and what do you do..you n pra..I mean what do you
do..for heavens sake…all I did wrong was plan to hand in my research
paper late…and you made such big deal out of it and encouraged Janki
devi to punish me..why
Mettili: Adi believe me I had nothing to do with any punishment I had no
idea why she called you..
Adi: Whtever, I don even care anymore about what you think or say,
except for the fact that I am stuck working on that stupid music festival
also!
Mettili: But I am doing that…
Adi: Yes duffer, im stuck with you!
Mahi: Adi, Adi, stop…cmon..lets go.
Mettili: If anybodys stuck, its me Vikram-Aditya Mehra! With you!
As Mahi dragged Adi off he managed to yell on last thing: oh so we r not
on first name basis anymore..! Fine!
Mettilli: Fine!
They both stormed off in opposite directions, each one feeling an array of
powerful emotions: anger at each other, hurt caused by the anger,
frustration at the fact that they are feeling hurt and oddly fired up and
strangely excited by the question of what is going to happen next to their
volatile equation when they are forced to spend so much time with each
other….
