Chapter 2
"Adi's Quest for a bride"
After taking a quick shower, he came down and joined them at the table. Unlike the other days, they were all quiet. Suyesh waited for Adi to say something and Tannu just looked at her brother's confused face. From her judgment, she knew that he was about to say something important and most importantly she knew exactly what it was going to be.
Adi took a deep breath before he started to talk. "Daadu, I have been thinking for some time now' I think you were right, I need to get married and settle down"
Suyesh's face completely lightened up by hearing Adi's decision. He came and hugged his grandson. Seeing his grandfather happy, brought tears in his eyes but he wiped it off before anybody could see them. However, this was noticed by Tannu who was watching them. She felt guilty for making him go through this. But she knew that one day he would thank her.
"Oh Bhai'I'm so happy. So tell me what kind of girl should we look for you? Me and Daadu will choose the perfect bride for you" said Tannu all excited. She was so excited that she was jumping around. She couldn't wait to call Bharat and let him know that their plan succeeded.
"Wait a minute" said Adi to Tannu "How do you know if I haven't already chosen my bride"
"WHAT" replied Tannu shocked "Don't tell me that you are actually dating someone?" How could this be she thought. How was it that her brother had a girlfriend and she was not aware about it?
"Why what's wrong with me having a girlfriend'Don't you read the newspapers? After all, I'm one of the most eligible bachelors" he said with a smirk on his face.
Well this was perfect she thought. She wouldn't have to trouble herself of finding someone for him.
Not that she hadn't already started.
"Adi beta, you don't know how happy you have made me today. Now tell me, when will you bring my bahu, well "grand bahu" home?" asked Suyesh "Soon" replied Adi and left for work.
Sitting in his office, he thought from where exactly he was going to find this girlfriend of his. He had thought about it last night. He would marry someone for the time being just to make his father happy. But it would be some sort of "contract marriage". Saying it was the easy part, but finding a girl that would actually accept his proposal with those conditions was the hard part. Moreover, he would have to find a girl that he would be able to present in front of his father. This was the time when he regretted not having any girl friends.
Staring at the computer, he had even thought about posting an ad on the internet, of course as anonymous. But then again, if the media ever found out about it, not only would his reputation go to the drain but also his grandfather would have been heartbroken.
Adi was thinking of other possible options, when he heard a knock on his door.
"Come in" he said straightening himself
Maithilli came in acting as professional as possible. She never actually came in his office to hand in any reports. It was never her job. It was usually done by Ramesh uncle, her senior manager. But he hadn't come in today and the reports needed to be signed by Adi. She had put enough courage to come in front of him. She told herself that there was no need to worry.
"Sir, these are the paper of our new foreign project'" she said handing him the file
He wasn't actually paying any attention at what she was saying. He was busy analyzing her. Maithilli Agarwal, fitted the bill properly he thought
After a while, she noticed that he wasn't paying attention at anything she was saying. He was lost somewhere.
"Sir'sir" she repeated herself
"Oh'thank you Maithilli'oh no sorry'Miss Agarwal" he said coming back from his thoughts.
"Its okay" she said and left the room.
His eyes followed her till she sat comfortably in her cabin. Form his office, he had a clear view of her. He stared at her while she was busy doing some paper work. She was dressed in a simple pink salwar kameez. His dad would definitely want a sanskaari girl and Maithilli was perfect for that he thought. From what he knew, she had lost her whole family in a devastating car accident. She would understand his situation. She had gone through the grief of loosing someone important. If he would explain her, his state of mind, she would agree to play along with him. However, another thought had strike him as well, there was no doubt that Maithilli was the perfect girl for his plan, but the girl was a bit afraid of him, since that incident in the parking lot: after that incident their fights had stopped; she would avoid him as much as possible. (It's the same incident which happened in the show, but here it happened between one of their fights.) How would she able to live with him, that too as his wife? Well that was something he would have to work, once she would accept his proposal he told himself.
Once he had revised and memorized what he was going to say her, he called in her cabin and asked her to come in his office.
Maithilli had been working for Adi for almost a year now and this was the first time that he had called her in his office. Maybe there was a mistake in the reports she handed in some time ago she thought. But then, she had reviewed them at least 10 times before handing them. She just hoped he would not get angry or scream at her. After all, he was known for his crazy temper. Taking a deep breath, she headed towards his office.
Seeing him staring at her, made her even more nervous. However, she still managed to ask "Sir, you have called me?"
He didn't say anything. A few minutes ago, he had a perfect convincible speech ready and now just having her in front of him, he had blank out. He didn't exactly know how to formulate his words.
"Sir?...is there'" she asked once again
"Uhm'there is something'.something I wanted to ask you'well the thing is my grandfather...will you marry me'" he said all confused
"WHAT?" she said loudly shock obvious on her face
"No' what I meant'is that will you'" before he could finish, there was a knock on his door and Mr. Sharma, the executive manager, had entered.
"Sir, I'm really sorry to interrupt, but there is something you really need to see"
Seeing the emergency of the situation, Adi and Mr. Sharma left the room, leaving a shocked Maithilli behind. She was in fact trying to recall what had just happened a few minutes ago. He wasn't possibly asking her to marry him. Why on earth would Vikram Aditya Mehra even think about marrying Maithilli Agarwal? She must have misunderstood him. It was probably her imagination or something like that she told herself.
She was still in his office. Was she going to wait for him she asked herself, but then thought it would be better to leave and forget what had just happened. It was Friday, and the bright decision would be to go home and enjoy the weekend without thinking what had occurred a few minutes ago.
