Part 10
She gives into the sensation and anticipating the touch of his lips on hers she closes her eyes, permitting him to do whatever he wants. He feels her submission and shifts his gaze back to her lips. Their innocence was very inviting. He craved to touch them, to feel their warmth and sensation, but …. With a jerk, he stands up, leaving a restless and unsatisfied Kaajjal. She opens her eyes instantly, only to find him walking away from her. Her eyes traced his footsteps but he had already left the shed, gone into the darkness of the night.
"Dev," his name on her lips was a shivering whisper, for she was still trying to figure what had captured her senses so wildly, that she had forgotten everything in his arms.
She sat there and wondered, almost scolding herself why she gave into the moment to let him leave her like this. Although she knew why he did this; He had made his point very clear that he did not need to force anything on her, and that he knew how to control his emotions. However, she had known this very clearly that it was not him she was afraid of, but her own self – for she knew she was not able to trust herself when she was with him ….. Why??? This question still needed a clear answer.
Scene change
"aadha ghanta ho gaya hai, bahar thand bhi bohat hai, kahan chalay gayay hain yeh." Kaajjal asks herself when Dev does not return. It was getting darker and colder with every passing minute and she was losing her patience trying to wait for him.
"In kay bhi sar pay aur kandhay pay chot lagi hue hai, kahin kuch ho na gaya ho." This thought sends waves of anxiety down her body and she tries to lift herself up. God knows from where she got the energy to drag her hurt knees and stand up ….. with some difficulty she tries to walk and steps outside the hut to look for him, unaware why she was soooo restless for him and why she cared for him soo much. However, how would she had known that caring for Dev was a part of her nature.
She steps out only to find grave darkness which was preventing clear vision of anything. All she could hear was the noise of a small river crossing by … the sound of the water in this darkness and silence seemed beautiful. She once again tries to look around but in vain and then reluctantly calls his name,
"Mr. Singh …." No answer, "Mr. Singh ….." she tries again. And then all of a sudden she hears a cat meowing nearby and her heart stops. She turns around instantly only to bang into Dev.
"ouch …." She loses her balance and he instantly grabs her from around her waist.
"Watch out Ms. Behl …." This time he was also hell-bent on showing his attitude. He had had enough of her tantrums. He stands her straight and quickly moves away, banishing any contact and steps back. She looks at him at Ms. Behl and her heart skips a beat. How strange and distant Ms. Behl sounded. And realization struck immediately that when she had been calling him Mr. Singh and he had been begging her to call her Dev, it must have hurt him the same way. But why was it hurting? why did she care? She should have been glad that he was trying to be formal. However her heart got restless.
"What are you doing out here?" he asks her while moving towards the hut, bringing her back from her haywire thoughts.
"wo … wo main …." Her lips tremble, reluctant to tell him she was looking for him.
"anyways, I don't care … you can do as you please." He cuts her words, showing her his attitude (And boy you know DPS's attitude … ahhhhh a killer). Kaajjal looks at him with a surprised look, feeling the pain his indifferent behavior was giving her. He settles down on the stack in front of the fire and opens a small bag, taking out some bags of potato chips and water bottles from it.
"yeh …" Kaajjal looks at him.
"hmmm, my friend Anupum always keep something to eat in the car … I went back to get it. You must be hungry …." He says without looking at her and slides a bag of potato chips and water bottle towards her …
"no I am not hungry …thank you" she says with an ada, thinking he would ask her again. He could clearly see she was lying and he wished he could get up and feed her with his own hands …. He wished he could show her how much he cared for her, but ….. he didn't want a fight again so he chose to ignore.
"fine…" he says softly and starts eating his chips. She looks at him with a childish face, 'aik larki bethi hai aur khud khayay ja rahay hain …..' she talks to herself like a baby …. But he ignores her completely.
Scene Change
"suniyay …" she calls him while he was gulping the water from his bottle. He looks at her without a word. I have to call my papa …. he must be very worried. Without a word, he takes his cell phone and pushes it towards her. She could see he was maintaining his distance and this bothered her intensely. "O God Kaajjal, what is wrong with you. Its good na that he is away from you … but then why am I feeling restless. why am I feeling alone and deserted .. why?' she tries to jerk her thoughts out of her head and calls her papa.
"papa … main Kaajjal …"
"Kaajjal kahan ho tum beta …. We are soo worried for you …" Satya voice revealed his anxiousness.
"papa wo, aaj subha I called you to tell you I was going to meet Mr. Singh. The person who is making that hotel in Missouri." Kaajjal starts,
"haan haan yaad hai beta," Satya cuts her words in between …
" who mujhay wapsi pay lift day rahay thay tu wo …. Chota sa accident ho gaya." Kaajjal says slowly, for she knew this would create havocs to Satya's senses.
"kya … what …" Satya almost gets a heart attack.
"papa papa please calm down …. Papa ….." Kaajjal tries to cool him. Kaajjal tells him all that happened and told about Mr. Singh's talk with his friend and that the rescue team will come tomorrow morning. She tells him about the darkness and all and tries to convince him that he must not come here to find her, for Satya insisted he would come now.
"papa, Mr. Singh meray saath hain, and he is taking good care of me." Kaajjal's eyes automatically lift towards Dev at this and find him looking at her as well. For a moment, she forgets what she was saying, but then she composed herself again, "please aap fiqr na karain, and don't think of coming here at this hour. Its very dark." She convinces Satya and knowing that she was with Mr. Singh and was safe, calmed him a little.
"papa, I am absolutely fine, and tomorrow morning as soon as I am out of here, I will come home. Ok …. Don't worry …." Kaajjal smiles. Finally Satya was convinced and she breathes a sigh of relief. All through this conversation, she had referred to Dev as Mr. Singh and Satya had no clue she was with Dev, else God knows what had happened.
Scene Change
"Thank you" Kaajjal slides his phone back to him. He nods slightly without looking at her. Her eyes lingered on him for a few more seconds and shifted from his face to his shoulder and she shivered at what she saw. His olive green shirt was soaking in blood from his left shoulder.
"Dev …." She gets up with his name on her lips and reaches him instantly. He looks at her with surprise when she bends forward and touches his shoulder.
"ouch …." He sighs with pain; the particles of the glass that had broken when the car had collided were still in his shoulders and hurt really bad at her touch.
"you have bled like crazy, please let me see." She begs him to let her see the wound but he pulls away from her.
"There is no need, I can take care of myself." He says harshly. She knew he would not let her close, for what she had been doing with him, he had had enough of her nonsense. But she was not letting it go.
"Dev please. Let me see….." his name on her lips and that too possessively leaves him speechless. How he had waited to hear his name from her like this. he stops resisting and she touches his shoulder, trying to see the wound but in vain.
"its lot of blood, I can't see anything." she says while shifting her gaze from the shoulder to his eyes, "you have to remove your shirt." She says and he holds his breath.
"remove my shirt … no thanks, I don't want to." Dev says with an attitude … still angry at how Kaajjal had been behaving with him all along.
"Dev please, this is not a joke. We have to take care of it …. Now." She moves forward again, closing the distance and this time her fingers touched his button. He looks at her and then her fingers, which were gently moving on the button of his shirt to open it.
"kya kar rahi ho." He asks reluctantly, but she doesn't answer and opens the top two buttons of the shirt.
"Ms. Behl please, I said its ok …." He tries to stop it one more time,
"no Mr. Singh, it is not ok …." She says opening the third button. But, she couldn't go any further … her lips trembled, her breathing get heavy and her senses lose all control … how could she open the rest of the buttons, how could she pulls his shirt from beneath his trouser, how could she slide his shirt down to reveal his shoulder. Dev feels her reluctance and his eyes sets on her confused face. She looked sooo beautiful, so lovely at that moment that he wished he had the right to hold her and make her feel the depth of his love, but ……
"aa … aap please apni shirt utarain tu main zakhm dekhoon." She says in a broken trail of words and he, as if mesmerized by her nearness, pulls his shirt from beneath the trouser and opens the rest of the buttons. However, he does not slide the shirt down from his shoulder; waiting for her to do it. She looks at him, as if saying, I am waiting, but he bends his eyes, ignoring her pleas. Reluctantly she moves her hand and slides the shirt gently from his left shoulder. The shirt was stuck to his wound and she had to pull it a little harder to move it. This ignited the wound and Dev sighed heavily.
"O God, I am sorry …. " she looks at him instantly with eyes full of concern.
"Its ok …" his voice comes as a husky whisper dripping honey into her senses. She gently moves forward to have a closer look at the wound. The light from the burning flames fell on his skin turning it into honey gold complexion. She gets closer to his shoulder and while doing so her whole body shifts closer to him. Her hairlocks teasingly touched her cheeks and disturbing her by constantly blocking her view. She puched her head back constantly to clear the vision but the locks kept falling. Dev saw her struggle and very gently moves her hand, taking the hair locks in his fingers and pulling them behind her ears. The moment his fingers touched her cheeks and forehead she looks up towards him. Their eyes meet, passion flares and her whole world spins around her. He holds his breath but never leaves her eyes. She wished she could keep looking at him like this, for this was like a dream and he seemed like her raj kumar to her. However the wound needed to be taken care of and she shifts her gaze back to his shoulder. She picks the water bottle he had brought for her and tears a corner of her dupatta for cleaning. He looks at her as she tears her dupatta and tries to stop her,
"Kaajjal .. tumhara dupatta kharab ho jayay ga."
"aap say zyada zaroori nahi hai yah …." Unintentionally words slip her tongue and by the time she realized what she had said it was too late. She looks at him and instantly bends her eyes, trying to avoid those unsaid questions in those passion-filled eyes.
To be continued soon …
