TELEVISION
ER...it's Kher

Recently Anupam and Kirron Kher were specially invited for guest appearance in the top-rated medical serial ER. The two play Parminder Nagra's parents — a role all too familiar for Anupam who played Nagra's father in Bend It Like Beckham.

Produced by Michael Crichton, author of the blockbuster Jurassic Park, the hit show revolves around doctors and nurses in the emergency room of a Chicago hospital. Such has been Kher's performance that he's become the top draw for the series.

Much like Om Puri, Anupam Kher seems to be the flavour for Asia-oriented films and serials. Apart from a cameo in Gurinder Chadha's forthcoming Bride and Prejudice, he has done a BBC series Spooks as also an Indo-American telefilm Second Generation.

It's male time folks. After a long wait comes a serial that revolves around male protagonist. Ironically it comes from Balaji — the production house that edged out men from important roles in soaps in the first place.

Tina on film trip

Till now you've known her as Shruti of Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and for her cameos in Khichdi, Mansha, Kahani Terri Merri, Hip Hip Hurray, Sshh... Koi Hai, and Dollar Bahu. Now meet Tina Parekh as Sandhya in the forthcoming film, Satya Bol.

Unlike other moony younger generation TV stars who go ga-ga over their Bollywood debuts, Tina looks calm and unperturbed. "I expect a lot from the film. I play an honest cop's wife in this thriller."

Though she has no plans of quitting television she's definitely cutting back on work. "I am not signing any new shows. The focus is now on films," says Tina.

But isn't this a deglamourised debut playing a cop's wife? "Not at all. I think I've handled it as sensitively as Raveena did in Shool and Gracy in Gangajal," says Tina, whose favourite stars are Tabu and Kajol and not the two she is comparing herself with.
