Promotion saved Just Dance
Splashy marketing and aggressive promotion ensured Just Dance a decent opening. The hype and hoopla woven around Hrithik Roshan's dancing prowess as the "god of dance" also helped the show. But that also turned out to be the major irritant. The relentless Hrithik build-up may take the focus away from talent. So great is the channel's obsession with the star that his co-judges Farah and Vaibhavi are constantly telling participants that they are on the biggest platform and will have to match Hrithik's expectations. As for the ratings, an opening of 3.7 TVR is nothing to rave about given the big build-up and aggressive push, though it is the best so far this year for a non-fiction show.
Generally, while fiction shows grow in popularity if the content is good, ratings of non-fiction shows drop. So far, there is no sign of Hrithik on the show and the channel has probably delayed his entry so that the initial numbers do not decline. But all reality shows anchored or judged by Bollywood biggies, it's not the stars who sustain ratings, but the content — week after week.
