Chetan might be doing well in Bollywood but TV remains the main source of his income
After playing an array of negative characters in serials like Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Kkusum andKya Hua Tera Vaada, actor Chetan Hansraj is back on the small screen with another shade of grey in the role of Adam Khan in Jodha Akbar. "I know I have been typecast as a villian, but I don't mind that at all! Agar sahi bolu toh, I want to specialse as a negative character," says Chetan during his recent visit to the city.
He adds, "So, far I have been offered negative roles by everyone and I love it. I really don't want to do a role of a sweet-sugary beta, who actually has nothing to do in a serial. A villain on the other hand has much more to do than the lead actor. So you see, being bad is good!"
Old is gold
It is not the first time that Chetan is doing a historical or a mytholiogical serial. "In fact, I started my career with a mythological serial when I was a kid and played the role of Chhote Balram. Then I went on to do Prithvi Raj Chauhan and Veer Shivaji. I get a lot of offers for mythological serials but I prefer historical over mythological serials. It is a personal choice." Working in such serials, Chetan has actually developed a soft corner for all the ladies who have to wear heavy jewellery in daily life. "The jewellery that I have to wear in Jodha Akbar, man, it is so heavy! Now I understand what women must be feeling wearing these heavy sets."
Filmi chakkar
Apart from doing some good work on TV, Chetan also has a few Bollywood films to his credit. "I have a substantial role in Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobara and I am also doing a movie titled Woh Aadmi Bahut Kuch Janta Hai which stars Rajeev Khandelwal and Shatrughan Sinha," says Chetan who has also starred in movies like Shoot Out At Wadala and Bodyguard. And though Chetan might be getting good Bollywood offers, he says television is his priority. "It is not only that TV is my first love but it is the place from where I earn my bread and butter. I can't run a family with the handful of movies I am doing," he says.
