Playing for charity
TV stars will play a cricket match to collect funds for their fraternity
Vikas Kalantri's Gold Charity Foundation, that was launched three years ago, organises a charity match every year between two teams comprising TV actors. Oscillating between cricket and football, this year the former sport will be played on May 3 at the Goregaon Sports Club.
The objective of the foundation is to help members from the TV fraternity in whatever manner possible. Vikas says, "The idea of hosting a match to generate funds emerged from my experience at organising TV awards. Cricket is a sport which most people play and enjoy, and with the season currently on, TV stars are more inclined on playing the sport."
Some of the actors participating in the match are Karan Wahi, Manish Paul, Gaurav Chopra, Aamir Ali, Aditya Redij, Jai Soni, Nakuul Mehta, Mohd Nazim, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Shakti Anand, Siddharth Kanan, Karan Mehra, Suyash Kumar, Sailesh Gulabani, Mickey Dudaney, Aadesh Choudhary, Chaitanya Choudhary and Sandeep Sachdev.
Last year, proceeds from the charity match were donated to the Federation of Western India Cine Employees. In 2011 the sum went to the aid of late director Garry Bhinder's wife Roshan. Bhinder was suffering from cancer. Meera Gupta, wife of a lightman, whose husband was severely ill was the other beneficiary.
Vikas adds, "This year, the match will be played at night. I am the captain of one team, while Karan Wahi will lead the other side. As most actors are part of daily soaps, they practice on their sets."
