Someone just bring Remo back...

The judges are finally giving scores, but it honestly feels like ki yeh log akkad bakkad karke scores choose kar rahein hai.

Rubina:

  • This act was so much better than her first one, I really liked it! The act was clearly well-rehearsed, and Rubina and Sanam were in sync throughout.
  • Rubina also seemed a lot more comfortable with the choreography, it suited her quite well.
  • I liked some of the lifts that were done as well.
  • I don't know why they don't have the dance style title card appearing on screen like in previous seasons, but thank you Nora for clarifying that they were in fact doing the waltz. (Lagta hai poora budget golden chair pe chala gaya hai. I just know that they had some poor production assistant or an intern making those passports. 😆)
  • Nora's critique actually surprised me because I'm actually not aware of what her dance background is like, but I agreed with a lot of things that she pointed out. Except for what she said about Rubina having the correct posture and elegance, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but was I the only one who heard Nora say that she would be giving them a score of 4? It wasn't a spectacular act, but I wouldn't give it a 4.)
  • I don't completely agree with Karan's comments, but I too found that her dance to Madhuri's song was kind of better than her actual performance.

SCORE: 21 (my score = 18-19)

Gunjan:

  • I loved the act, Gunjan and Tejas are wonderful dancers and there's no doubt about it! However, this theme would've been a great opportunity for her to try something new. I liked that they tried to lindy hop, but I wish it was just a lindy hop and not a mix of styles. One of my least favourite things about the choreography on Jhalak in general is this need to take a style and always fuse it with either hip-hop or contemporary - just do the style as is! I do like fusion styles of dance and they can be quite interesting, but sometimes depending on the choreography, it can get quite repetitive.
  • This little girl has more professionalism than actual adults on dance shows. She covered up her fall like a pro which is what you should be doing unless you're seriously hurt in some way. If Nia or someone else had made a mistake, they would have dramatic music in the background and the act would probably stop at that point and we would then be subjected to 10 minutes of rona dhona with sad piano in the background.

SCORE: 24 (my score = 28-29, and yes I know I had a billion complaints, but it was still a good act, she'd only be docked for her fall)

Gashmeer:

  • I love that they did jazz, and they did it so well! They could've easily gone the more sensuous route that a lot of jazz routines have, but they went with a different style of jazz that gave the performance an almost musical theatre-esque quality to it. And that's what jazz is supposed to be, it's supposed to always feel like you're putting on a big production.
  • Love the song choice, it fits the style perfectly imo.
  • I think that the bit he did with the chair felt slightly awkward, he actually seemed to lose some energy there, and honestly, not every jazz routine needs a chair. Also, if Remo were here, then he would've absolutely commented on this part of the act. Yes, this is my formal request to bring Remo back as a judge for the season, we can have four judges.
  • His death drop was quite impressive!
  • That guitar thing at the end was SO unnecessary, please don't ever do that again.

SCORE: 24 (my score = 26-27)

Amruta:

  • I don't know if I liked this act or not. I was definitely impressed during certain parts, especially her little solo bit and the ending, but her and Pratik being quite visibly out of sync was one of my main issues.
  • Remo would've given her a 6 or 7, and I would've agreed.

SCORE: 24 (my score = 24 is a great score for this performance, and at most maybe bump it up to 25)

Shilpa:

  • It was a really good effort on her part! It's not her fault, her choreographer couldn't even keep up with his own choreo.
  • Under no circumstances should she and Rubina have gotten the same score! Chal kya raha hai iss show pe???

SCORE: 21 (my score = 15-16)

Paras:

  • Dude, I love you, but you're embarrassing me!
  • Those lifts were quite messy and I appreciated that Nora pointed that out. And this is absolutely on Shweta, she should've had him rehearse the lifts more because clearly he had the footwork and posture down for their tango, so focus on what he's mainly struggling with. Also, if you're teaching someone a new style, why would you add lifts to complicate the routine? That too in the second week?
  • I thought Karan's comment on Paras being such a "sincere student" was a great point... until he clarified that he saw it as a positive, which could not be further from the truth. I think that was his biggest weakness and it goes back to what Nora said about being a dancer vs a performer. If we're speaking on technique alone, then this is a great act, but Paras let the fact that he wasn't confident in getting this choreo right show on his face, which stopped him from actually being connected to the act and his partner, and therefore actually performing.
  • This brings me to my next problem with a judge's comment. Madhuri ji, with all due respect, are you sure we watched the same performance? You say he's stiff but he also performed with ease...? And then you're critiquing him for having a "structured" performance? (Iss liye hi Remo wapas nahi aaya, main bhi nahi aati.)

SCORE: 21 (my score = 23-24)

Final Thoughts:

  • If someone mentions Bigg Boss one more time, I'll lose it. Salman bhai kya Jhalak bhi produce karne lagein hai kya?
  • Petition to replace Nia, daadi and Zorawar with Manish as a contestant. Now I kind of want Manish to do what Jai Bhanushali did and go on Nach Baliye. Someone on that team needs to approach him, he has high chances of at least being in the top 5, or even top 3 depending on the other contestants.
  • BRING. REMO. BACK.

There is a dire need of an actual choreographer on that panel. I really liked Ganesh Hegde as a judge in the previous seasons as well. They’re so many choreographers in today’s time, I refuse to believe that the producers didn’t approach a single choreographer?

I also miss the dance style cards in the beginning of each performance, atleast it felt like a real dance show.

One thing I also missed was the first meet or rehearsal footage of all the contestants. They used to do that in the previous seasons and it felt good watching what goes behind in each act.

I agree! I don't know what Farah Khan is up to, but I've enjoyed her appearances as a judge in the past, she's more critical than you'd expect. I get that they want well-known celebrities as judges, but to be honest, people are already coming here to see their favourite celebrities dance, so it's not necessary to get high-profile celebs like Karan Johar to come and be a judge on your dance reality show.

Okay, so I don't actually watch Dancing With The Stars, but from the clips I've seen on Youtube, they haven't changed their format too much in the nearly two decades that the show has been on-air. They've always had their title cards for the dance styles, rehearsal footage for every act per person and then a kind short before and after of how confident they are about the act and their reactions to their scores. So I completely agree, I think I would've loved to see actual rehearsal footage of everyone and them talking about their acts rather than this comedy nonsense.

I remember when in Week 2 or 3, they once gave the contestants "wheels" as a challenge, and it was nerve-wracking to see everyone's rehearsals because they had all these props and roller skates and learning how to safely dance in that way. That's how the audience should feel, we should be at the edge of our seats to see if they can pull off these acts that they can plan. There's this one aerial act from Sana Saeed that I always think of because they showed the rehearsal of it and she fell quite a few times, so it was incredibly satisfying to see her not only perform well, but get that 30 that she was striving for.

People's love for their favourite celebs can only take the show so far, I feel like I need more of a reason to root for people to succeed on this show. For example, I can see that Shilpa made effort for her routine, but if I saw the rehearsal footage then maybe I would've been more inclined to want her to do well.

This is so well worded. And I completely agree that watching the pairs get challenged with stuff like wheels and other themes including challenging props was a great way to keep the audience engaged.

There was another theme I remember something like Jhalak in motion(they had to use moving props) where Faisal Khan’s choreographer misinterpreted the theme to fast/slo-mo and which actually got critical responses from the judges. It felt real to see that half the judges were not on board with the idea while the other half loved it.

I saw someone’s picture on social media which clearly showed a script placed in front of the judges with the names and pictures of each contestant. It makes me wonder if any of the remarks given to the contestants now are real or actually what the judge has to say?

I remember that! That's actually why I had so many criticisms for Gunjan's performance because while it was very good, I do think it wasn't completely on theme, but it's still the second week so what can you do?

Also, the judges were quite critical of Kiku Sharda for being a contestant as his character, so I don't understand why Ali Asgar is not getting that same criticism.

I get that reality tv is scripted, but their comments about the dance should not be.

Kiku Sharda was introduced as a contestant himself and not his avatar after a few weeks of the show and was instantly eliminated. And I get why they’re not giving Ali/Daadi any criticism because that’s filling out the comedic part of the show. The sad part is it’s not even comedy it’s just the inappropriate actions and jokes. Daadi isn’t leaving the show any time soon I’m sure.
The only saving grace would be to bring an actual choreographer as a judge who could give real criticism to the contestants.
