Tassnim Sheikh has two reasons to celebrate today. One, it's her birthday, and two, she's won the finale of Star One's Jet Set Go. After travelling through the bylanes of the city hunting for people with passports, Tassnim is now gearing up to go on her very own personal trip.
"I'm thrilled to win the finale. The prize is a 15-day trip to Europe, and that's one place I have always wanted to go to," says Sheikh.
She's waiting for her husband Sameer, who is in the merchant navy, to come home in September. "We will be going for the trip together. I am really looking forward to taking this break with Sameer," she says.
Team effort
Describing her final performance as 'exciting and highly challenging', she says, "I share the credit for winning with my entire team. From my cameraman, to the driver, to other technicians, everyone helped me out. Also, the fact that I won a couple of earlier episodes contributed to the grand victory."
Throughout the show, Tassnim has gone through various ups and downs. "It has been a roller coaster ride. My most scary moment was during the Baisakhi special episode, when the secretary of a building threatened to break our camera if we didn't leave the premises. I had to resort to crying and pleading to request him to carry on."
On a happier note, she remembers the episode where she helped the resident of a chawl win a trip to South Africa. "He wasn't from a well- to-do family, but had a passport. I remember walking through the slums of Bandra to go and meet him. To see his smile when he reached the airport was amazing. He never imagined going for an all-expense-paid trip to a foreign country."
Growing up
When asked who was her toughest competitor in the race, she says, "Kiran was very close to me in the finale. We had a time difference of barely 15 minutes between the two of us. I would have been happy to watch her win as well. She's a hard working girl."
Moving on to her birthday plans, she says, "I had planned to host a party for my Jet Set Go unit today. But I lost someone close to my family, so I may do it later. I see this Europe trip as the best birthday gift I could receive."
Tassnim also adds that she's looking forward to taking part in more reality shows. "Jet Set Go has made me a better person. I have overcome my fear of crowds, become more confident, and also grown as a person. When you are thrown into a sea of people who are rowdy and complete strangers, you start adapting your behaviour to suit the situation. I don't think I would have learnt this lesson doing a daily show."
