'It's a huge shock' Did you expect Jeete Hain..to wind up? That came out of the blue. I was heart-broken.We were in constant touch with the channel because we were worried about the dipping TRPs. But we were always reassured that it 's a good show. The show's exit is a complete shock to me. Many actors felt shortchanged. Were you happy with your part? Oh yes, I was extremely happy. I guess, it needed more time to catch on with the viewers. Also, I felt the cap- tion 'Ek maa ki mamta' didn't send the right message to the audience..the mother-child relationship was only going to be explored later. What are you planning next? I was shooting for 30 days of the month. So it's a huge loss in terms of losing a big show. I guess there are other good things in store for me. I do shudder at the thought of doing another daily soap. But, if you have to survive here, it's best to join the race. Right now, I'm off on a holiday to Singapore with my family. My kids have their summer vacation. I'll consider my next move after I return. Has it been difficult for you to get work in a woman-dominated TV industry? In television, it's not a tough choice if one has the right attitude. Look at films, actresses have a tough time bagging meaty roles. One has to accept the fact that tele- vision viewers identify with a woman's emotions. Unlike seeing a man cry, a woman's tears usually melts your heart. Today if you're out of sight, then you're out of mind. I have to be rational and see how successful a show will be rather than get bothered about such things. Films didn 't get you much success… Right? I'm not bitter about films because I've made my mark with television. Suc- cess in any form is welcome, be it in films or television. Though it's fan- tastic to be identified as Dilip Kumar's nephew, I still needed my own identity. Today, I have achieved fame, people recognise me by name.
