While the chocolate-faced actor had already made his presence felt in films like Pardes and Pyar Koi Khel Nahi, it was the hit serial Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin on the small screen that worked wonders for his
career. Apoorva Agnihotri chats with BT on life, career and more.

From a not-so-successful film actor to a popular TV face, life seems to have been a rollercoaster ride...

I'm happy that people recognise me today. And as an actor, that's enough for me. I don't expect a lot from life. I've always believed in putting in my best efforts to whatever task I undertake."

You've been seen on reality shows of late. Is it a platform for gaining popularity?

My aim is not to gain popularity and I'm not doing reality shows for this reason. Instead, I always wanted to do something different in my career. Plus, my wife Shilpa was quite excited when I was offered this singing reality show and just didn't want me to miss out on this one.

Weren't you apprehensive about signing on Pardes where you did not play the lead?

No. Before signing the movie I was well informed about my character, and I knew I was not playing the lead. So, before the release of the movie, I hardly had any expectations. But the way people praised me and recognised my acting talent in the movie, was my biggest compliment.

What's next on the cards?

Well, you may see me taking up direction in the coming years.

Do we see you following the six-pack abs brigade?

I have already worked on this during Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and lost too much weight. But that didn't actually look good on me. So I have stopped trying all these things on my body.
