For an actor who rarely watched soap operas, she has done remarkably well on television. Actor Divyanka Tripathi who was recently given the Fresh New Face of the Year award, says her role in the teleserial Banu Main Teri Dulhan has really been appreciated by the viewers across the country. "The only teleserial that I religiously followed before venturing into this field was Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin ," says this young lady from Bhopal who has earlier dabbled in theatre and modelling before landing the role of Vidya in Banu Main... What set the things rolling for her was a telefilm O Saathi Re which was shown on a private channel. This telefilm caught the eye of the producers of the serial Banu Main... who invited her for the auditions in Mumbai. "There were a whole lot of wannabes but I was selected as the producers believed that I fitted the bill perfectly," says Divyanka with a hint of pride in her voice. Well, now that she is a popular actor, will she become a part of the rat race? "Certainly not," she asserts. "Minting money will never become a criteria for selecting work. Instead, creative satisfaction is what I look forward to in my roles. Going berserk with multiple shifts is not my idea of doing work on the small screen. Joining the rat race is out of question," says the young lady emphatically. Point taken but how about moving to the silver screen? "See, I got an offer from Dharmesh Darshan and a few other offers for some international projects but because of my tight schedule I could not accept them. Besides, I have a responsibility towards the serial which I am doing at the moment and do not want to disturb its shoot in order to pursue my ambition," says the actor. But like all newcomers, does she also dream of working with the television czarina Ekta Kapoor? "She is surely the ultimate show-woman of the small screen. Her kind of passion is really amazing but given a chance I would like to work with her on my own terms since I am a person who sincerely believes in logic. I cannot do roles with which I cannot identify. I can give my best work in things which I strongly believe in. The character and the script should be convincing enough for me to accept the offer," says the young actor who would soon be seen in a reality show Shawa Shawa . |
