Indian TV's favorite geek has certainly come a long way in very little time. It's a milestone for the serial, as she was chosen to make history as the first fictional character to get stamped by the Indian postal service.
A special cover with a cancellation stamp and a Meghdoot post card... adorned by Jassi...Usually... only established... faces... feature on postage... but Jassi has won the honor... in the very first year of her existence. K. Noorjehan, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle says, "This is a character which is identified by the common man of our country and when the Sony Entertainment people came to us we were happy to participate in this. This will have a philately value, today you buy the post-card for 25 paise and 10 years down the line you may get Rs.25000 for it."
The special cover and post card were unveiled by Jassi, Purab and Arman of 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi.' And of course made the perfect anniversary gift for everyone. "I am extremely excited about this. It's the perfect gift. I will first send this special cover and post card which has my photograph on it to my parents who stay in New Zealand." For Armaan it's a moment of pride, "My photograph may not be on the cover but having 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi' on it is achievement enough. I hope our serial touches new high. The first year has been extraordinary and we hope to maintain it." As for Samir Soni playing Purab, "I have been a new entrant in the serial but am proud of this."
The producers of the serial Tony and Diya Singh are also on the seventh heaven. " It was Sony's idea to come up with this. Their entire marketing team did wonders. We hope to make Jassi even more likeable in the second year," says Diya. For Sony's vice - president, Tarun Katyal, " It is our most popular and watched show and therefore for its fans we wanted to bring out something which they could treasure. Yes, it is a different kind of campaigning for the serial but it's a new marketing strategy which we came up with." Jassi certainly seems to be going places but at a cost which the channel is more than willing to pay. The two-lakh post cards are available for 25 paise each and the 12500 special covers with the cancellation stamp for 10 rupees. Sony Entertainment has paid The Indian Postal Services Rs 2 lakh 65 Thousand for this. And after this they are soon coming out with a Satya Paul collection of 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi'.
