Rajesh Khera goes international
Maddy of Jassi Jaisi… to do a Canadian film called Whistle
Kunal M Shah
Rajesh Khera, popularly known as Maddy of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi is set to do an international film titled Whistle, produced by the Government of Canada and directed by Canada-based, Kashmir-born Vic Sareen. The film also stars Jimmy Mistry and Nevve Campbell of Scream fame, alongside Irrfan Khan and Vinay Pathak, among others.
Khera is keeping a low profile about the project. Upon being contacted he said, "I am not supposed to speak about the film. But all I can reveal is that it's a Partition-based period film. I play a negative character, a rebel called Arjuna. The character has a past — his family was killed during the Partition and he has vengeance on his mind. Arjuna wants to kill all the Muslims and Christians (played by Campbell) too. The film has been shot in Canada where Sareen has used sets to recreate Punjab. The remaining portions have been shot in and around Punjab."
Khera adds, "Bollywood has not been offering me interesting work so I decided to try my hand at this international project. Besides, I did Karam recently and am now doing Whisperers with Manoj Bajpai and Rahul Bose."
Commenting on how his track in Jassi ended abruptly, he says, "The producers showed no signs of reviving my track. Nor did I call them to ask about the future of my character in Jassi... Earlier I played a designer at the fashion house Gulmohar. Now, Gulmohar has shut down in the serial, so obviously there is no room for me."
On the television front he is doing Sixxerr and a comedy show for Rakhi Tandon on Zee TV where he will play a nerdy scientist.
