STORY OF DEVI :
Faith and devotion can change destinies. 'Devi' explores this thought through a mythological drama woven into a social context. Gayatri, an orphan and a staunch devotee of Goddess Durga is married to Vikram, the rich and spoilt brat. Encouraged by his brother-in-law Vasu, Vikram indulges in all kinds of vices and wants to live a debauched life and refuses to accept Gayatri as his wife. Vikram's godfearing parents leave no stones unturned to make him realise Gayatri's worth but all in vain. Vasu convinces Vikram to kill Gayatri and live his life his own way.
An impulsive Vikram takes Gayatri to Vaishno Devi and pushes her off a cliff. The Goddess herself adopts a human manifestation to avenge the murder of her devotee Gayatri. On coming back from Vaishno Devi Vikram is rendered speechless when he sees Gayatri in the house. He tries to prove that she is an imposter but fails as he can not disclose that he has killed Gayatri himself. Vikram's sins keep peaking and the Goddess decides that she will have to corner Vikram to make him repent for his sins. She changes the planetary arrangement in such a way that time reverses to a year back when Vikram had come home after killing Gayatri. But this time the Goddess does not come as Gayatri and Vikram has to answer a question, Where is Gayatri?
Vasu who by now has achieved mystical powers by trading his soul with the evil, comes to Vikram's rescue. He transforms one of his accomplices Urvashi into Gayatri and saves Vikram from getting convicted for Gayatri's murder. Little does Vikram know that Vasu has a hidden agenda to make Vikram consummate with an evil woman to let the ultimate evil take birth as their offspring. When Vasu is about to reveal to Vikram that the woman posing as Gayatri is actually Urvashi, the Goddess intervenes and Vikram goes blind.
Vikram's parents go to meet their family priest gaurishankar as they strongly believe he can cure Vikram's eyes. In an accident, Gaurishankar lays his life down to save their lives. Vikram's father brings Gaurishankar's children to his house. Gaurishankar's daughter Kalika considers it to be her responsibility to treat Vikram's eyes and fulfill her father's unfinished task, but she is oblivious of the fact that she's been chosen by the Goddess to fulfill Gayatri's task. She gradually realises that her coming to the sharma family is not just a coincidence but the onset of a journey of discovery for her to identify her purpose in life.
