Narayani stuti

As the JMD is marching around the episode of mahisasur mardini, I pursue this opportunity to bring you something from Shree Shree Chandi, that is related to that scene. hence I Proudly present narayani stuti as the first official DOTW of this forum.

After Devi Durga was aroused as Katyayani to vanquish mahisasur, she began her war with him. To increase her strength, every one , from gods to saints, to human beings started worshipping her.

She is NARAYANI: ie the well wisher of the universe., the being of the universe.

So everyone wanted her to be pleased. Its very easy to please her and so every one chanted:

DEVI PRAPARNARTI HARE PRASEED

Oh goddess! You who take away all our pains and inflictions,, bless us, be with us

PRASEED MATOH JAGATA AKILASHYAHA

Be pleased mother, you who is the universe itself

PRASEED VISWWESHWARI PAHI VISWA….

BE pleased oh mother, you who rule this universe

……….the adoration and praying continued though out the fight.

Here in we find the chant

STRIYA SAMASTA SAKALA JAGASTSU

The whole world comes into being from you, the ultimate woman

This strotra contains the famous liners,

SARVAMANGLAYA MANGALYE SHIVE SARVARTHOSADHIKE….

The lady, who brings peace, well being and ausice to all, lets salute her. Lets salute the mother who comes to our rescue whenever we need her, lets

Reading, chanting this strotra brings sense of power, courage and blessings to perform all the tough times and conquer the world of fear.

So let's discuss this week about the mighty goddess.

Thanks Tan for the DOTW:)
I think this show potrays the role of Durga very well, its shown all the forms of her, and also how she faces her hurdles and over comes her problems.. Its surely an educational show and we benifit a lot from it.

Here is some information i got from Wikipedia:

In Hinduism, Durga Maa Durga (Mother Durga) is a form of Devi, the supreme goddess. Goddess Durga is considered by Hindus to be the mother of Ganesha, Kartikeya, as well as Saraswati and Lakshmi. She is thus considered the fiercer, demon-fighting form of Shiva's wife, goddess Parvati.

Durga is depicted as a warrior aspect of Devi Parvati with 10 arms who rides a lion or a tiger, carries weapons and assumes mudras, or symbolic hand gestures. This form of the Goddess is the embodiment of feminine and creative energy (Shakti).

I think this potrays the role well and Shaleni is going a great job playing the role:)

durga means: durgati nashini:

she who takes away all our misfortunes, she is depicted as the ultimte woman. all men and all women come from her and after their turn vanish within her.

she is shakti or energy and her male form is matter or inanimate supreme being. without energy nothing can be done and without matter energy cannot exists. so they r interwoven and as a matter of fact tow difefrent forms of same being.( well this was conceived long before einstein conceived E=MC2😉)

and not only demon fighter, but she is also the mother.

Specially bengalis consider aher as teh eternal daughter and the queen motehr to four children who each is the god/goddess of difefrent aims:

saraswati:knowledge

laxmi: wealth

ganesha: success

kartik: power and strenght

ther children are manifestations of her different forms

Thanx a ton for all the diversified info... as far as my knowledge goes... Maa Durga as described by Sumukhi in the saturday's eppy took her form from to destroy evil and establish good and virtuous!

Mata Mahalaxmi, Mata Mahasaraswati and Mata Mahakali (also Maa Parvati) have all evolved from the same supreme Goddess... and which inturn took many other forms at different times... Thats the reason its said only the name changes the power remains the same... whichever form of her we worship its the form of that Supreme Goddess who took different forms to reach out to her children and destroy the evil to establish good and to let the truth and right win 😳

Maa Durga is one of such forms of that Mighty Godess... As tan says the Male form of that one power is the matter... which got disintegrated to three Supreme forms Brahmaji (the one who creates), Vishnuji (The one who nurtures) and Shivji (the one who destroys) similarly the energy also got diversified into Saraswati Maa, Laxmi Maa and Parvati Maa... and probably the best example is the sawroop of Ardh Nari Nateshwar... Shiv and Shiva.
