Part 3
Ayesha has now been in her new job for a couple of weeks. Kameeni and Poisonous Snake Jeeju are managing to do a good job of not giving them enough opportunity to meet especially as Veer is very busy with hotel matters and Ayesha is getting used to her new duties.
One day at work, Ayesha is working near a reception area for the MD and senior staff offices when she hears raised voices coming from the MD's office. The MD is called Rahul Gujral and is the younger of the owner of the Gujral empire. Ayesha has only seen Rahul a few times in passing and has not spoken to him until now. He is tall and good looking (like our Mr Chocolate) but very flirtatious and is generally always smiling and friendly. It is obvious that Rahul and his secretary, Anita (who Ayesha has previously spoken to whilst going about her job) are having a huge argument as Anita seems to have made a serious mistake in her work. Anita then rushes out of the office in tears and comes to her desk and starts packing her belongings. Ayesha is worried as Anita is crying and asks her what has happened.
Anita says that she has fallen out with Rahul and has had enough of her job. She is getting married soon anyway and doesn't want to work anymore. She also says that Rahul has an important meeting in about 10 minutes and the visitors will need to be greeted at the desk, handed over brochures etc and shown to the conference room. Refreshments then need to be ordered for them and notes taken whilst the meeting is on. As Anita is fuming with Rahul, she is leaving immediately without telling him and doesn't care what happens when his clients arrive. Ayesha tries to tell her not to do this but Anita is in no mood to listen. Ayesha can immediately see how embarrassing that will be for the hotel and she is thinking that she will go and tell Rahul what is about to happen. However, just then she can hear people approaching and the main receptionist saying that Mr Gujral's office is just round the corner. Anita storms off in such a rush, she even forgets her jacket on her chair.
In desperation, Ayesha snatches the jacket and puts it over her housekeeping uniform. As her uniform is a plain skirt, with the dark jacket on, it looks pretty much like a secretarial outfit. Before she has time to think her plan through, the clients are there. Ayesha greets them very professionally and then hands them a brochure at the front of the desk. She then begins to escort them to the conference room, which is near Mr Gujral's office. She knocks and then enters.
Rahul Gujral turns round expecting Anita but sees Ayesha instead. He stares in surprise but Ayesha continues to play the part with a pleading look and announces that his guests are here. Rahul is bemused but recovers and begins talking to his clients and begins his presentation. Ayesha meanwhile rushes out and calls catering to ask about the refreshments etc. They are all ready and soon they are brought up and served in the room. Ayesha goes back into the room and supervises the refreshments.
She is not sure what to do about getting a replacement secretary so decides she must wait for Mr Gujral to finish but she speaks to her manager in the meantime about what has happened and he agrees that she needs to wait but must watch Anita's desk as Rahul is always busy and will not be happy if there is no one to answer his calls. Ayesha manages as best as she can, taking down all messages etc.
In a few hours the conference is over and Rahul walks out to Ayesha once he has bid goodbye to his clients. He calls her into his office and demands to know what is going on. Ayesha is quite scared by now as she doesn't know how Rahul will view her actions. To her surprise, Rahul is delighted that she was so quick thinking and is impressed with her skills at handling the matter so gracefully. He is livid that his own secretary has left before he can train a new one. He asks Ayesha how she was so comfortable with handling the desk and calls. She explains that when she worked for the Vardhans, she was made to train in all departments for a few weeks. Impulsively, Rahul offers her a job as his new assistant/ secretary. Ayesha is stunned but delighted as that is a rare promotion.
Ayesha is oblivious as to how impressed Rahul is with her manner and her general attitude. He has also noticed how pretty she is in a simple unpretentious way! Towards the end of the day, Ayesha is sat at her new desk getting used to her new duties and is engrossed in typing out a memo for Rahul, when she hears someone approach her desk and looks up, to freeze in shock!
A: Veer Sir!!! Aap- yahan?
Indeed, it is Mr Chocolate and he looks equally stunned to see our damsel at Rahul's PA's desk.
V: Ayesha??? Lekin tum to housekeeping me ho naa? Yahan kya kar rahi ho.
At that point, Rahul walks out and says:
R: Well Mr Vardhan Singh, yeh housekeeping me thee, lekin aaj subha se unka job role kuch change ho gaya hai aur abh ye meri assistant hain!
Both Veer and Ayesha look at Rahul. Rahul then comes over to Veer with a big smile and gives him a quick hug.
R: Veer! Good to see you man. Kitne dino ke baad mile ho. Kaise ho? Andar aao office mein, bahut batein karni hain. Ayesha- mere calls screen karna please. Veer aur mein school aur college main saath the aur hamare families bhi ache dost hain. Ha, yeh baat alag hain ke ye hamare competition bhi maane jaate hain.
Whilst Ayesha is still staring at them both in surprise, Veer gives her a long glance and follows Rahul into his office.
R: Veer, tum Ayesha ko kaise pehchante ho? Aha- usne bataya tha ke who tumhare hotel me kaam karti thi aur vahi say usko saare departments ki training mili hai. Lekin tumko staff ka har banda yaad hain kya? Vaise, I guess Ayesha ki baat hi kuch alag hain.
Veer jumps a bit hearing this and feels immediately bothered by this statement. He asks in a sharp tone:
V: Kya mutlab Rahul?
Rahul pretends to ignore the tension in Veer's voice and explains the situation that occurred in the day. Whilst Veer feels proud of Ayesha when listening to Rahul sing the praises of his new assistant, he also feels annoyed for some reason he cannot explain to himself. It transpires that Veer had to see Rahul about some work but he had constantly been thinking that Ayesha worked there and wondering if he would see her whilst visiting Rahul but had assumed that he would not as she would be in housekeeping. Somewhat reluctantly, Veer explains the connection with Nihal and Ayesha. Rahul is surprised to learn all of this but does not say much.
After they both finish speaking, it is the end of the day and Rahul announces that he will go home soon. Veer steps out and goes over to Ayesha again.
V: Ayesha, Rahul kuch der me kaam khatam karne vala hain. Tum mere saath ghar chalo, gaadi bahar hi hain.
Ayesha tries to protest but Rahul overhears on his way out and tells Ayesha she can leave if she wants to. Ayesha heads off with Veer, whose emotions are still very confused.
