Arjun Bijlani: It's fun to interact with larger-than-life Delhiites

The cute, chocolate boy of TV and one of the most handsome dads on Instagram, Arjun Bijlani was recently in Delhi to promote his upcoming show 'Ishq Mein Mar Jawan'. We took him on a stroll to the Central Park in Connaught Place, an area he is fond of. We got to talking and Arjun spoke about a host of things, from his connection with Delhi, to the controversy around Indian TV shows, his camaraderie with his 'Miley Jab Hum Tum' co-stars and the reality of reality shows.

'Delhi people are larger than life'

Although he's born and brought up in Mumbai, Arjun shares a strong connection with Delhi. He has many cousins who stay in Delhi and his wife Neha Bijlani's relatives stay in Greater Kailash. Arjun says, "Delhi's food is amazing. Whenever I am in Delhi, my cousins take me to the local food joints and I satiate my craving for some sumptuous Delhi food. Neha's relatives also stay here. She's lived here for some time. They have a house in Greater Kailash, where we usually stay when on a private visit to Delhi. I love going to the M block market in GK with my wife. It is a shoppers' paradise. And apart from the city's food, I love Dilli ke log. The people here are larger-than-life. It is fun to interact with them."

'Fantasy shows have the liberty to explore the creative side of a show'

The 'Left Right Left' actor was the lead in the first season of the fantasy-fiction show 'Naagin' and thinks fantasy shows have the liberty to show out-of-the-box content. "'Naagin' was always projected as a fantasy-fiction. When it's fantasy, you have the liberty to show stuff. You are allowed to explore the creative side as much as you want. I think what really matters is entertaining people. And my show really entertained people," he says.
Talking about the unrealistic content of the so-called realistic TV shows, he says, "Sometimes, the producers run out of stories. When the shows run for years there is no option other than to come up with such plots. The ratings are quite high during that time. I agree that in a realistic show like 'Sasural Simar Ka', it is not right to show regressive things like ghosts and naagins, but this is what keeps the TRPs of these shows high."

'Meeting 'Miley Jab Hum Tum' co-actors is like reliving good old College days'

Arjun is often seen hanging out with his co-stars from the show 'Miley Jab Hum Tum', Mohit Sehgal and Sanaya Irani. Ask about his camaraderie with them and he replies, "We have been friends for the longest time. I know Sanaya since 'Left Right Left'. Sanaya and Mohit's relationship started in front of me and the two also got married in front of me. We keep meeting whenever we get time. Meeting them is like reliving the 'Miley Jab Hum Tum' waley days. It feels like I'm meeting my college friends."

'I never bothered about winning and what happens behind the curtains'

Arjun has always loved dancing but never took professional training until he participated in the dance reality show 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa'. Talking about the whole politics behind a reality show, he says, "I don't know what happens behind the curtains, what happens with the channel and the judges, and what all they're told. Yes, there is a lot of speculation and alot of people talk about it. But I never bothered about it. I am an actor. I am not here to win trophies. I am here to perform and entertain people. And that is what I am doing even after 'Jhalak'."

'Ganpati Bappa is everything in my life'

An ardent devotee of Lord Ganesha, Arjun brings the elephant god to his house every year on Ganesh Chaturthi. He believes that whatever he has is because of him. "Ganpati Bappa is everything in my life. I am a devoted follower and also end up signing my contracts on a Tuesday, which is considered to be Bappa's day. The first promo shoot of my upcoming show was on Tuesday, the first day of our outdoor shoot also happened to be on Tuesday and the last day of the outdoor shoot was also Tuesday. See the coincidence?"
