With the world all set to observe World Food Day today, here is a sneak peek into the dabbas of the television celebrities. Most of these actors prefer taking their dabba to the set where they are shooting. Even those who did not carry dabbas from home before, have started carrying huge tiffin boxes to the sets now.
Surbhi Chandana gorges on chawal fare on her cheat days
Naagin actress, Surbhi Chandana makes sure that her dabba is gluten-free as maintaining a good body is essential for her role. “Most days, I have boiled dal and sauté veggies with a dip like peri-peri. On my cheat days, I ask my mother to prepare rajma chawal, kadhi chawal, or sambhar chawal as I love rice. My mother also makes amazing jowar ki bhakri with palak paneer,” shares Surbhi.
Aasif Sheikh's food is cooked in less oil
Since Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai! actor Aasif Sheikh has to leave early in the morning, his wife prepares his dabba in the night. He is careful of his weight and follows a strict diet when shooting. “My dabba majorly consists of food, which is cooked in less oil and spices like paneer, green veggies and dal. I also have eggs to maintain my protein levels. On days when I don’t like having the regular fare, I make sandwiches on the set with multigrain bread, chicken salami, sausages or fish. Everyone loves the biryani and kebabs from my house, so there are days when I carry dabbas full of these delicacies,” he says.
Hiten Tejwani loves his ghar ka khaana
Hiten Tejwani, who is currently shooting for Gupta Brothers Chaar Kunware From Ganga Kinaare, looks forward to his dabba from home as he believes it has a secret ingredient — and that is love. “I love ghar ka khaana. My diet is simple, so my dabba consists of basic fare like dal with rice, sabzi and sometimes, chicken. I also carry a basket of dry fruits, protein bars and some light snacks to munch on in between shoot breaks,” reveals the actor.
Pooja Banerjee likes to have something spicy with her lunch
Kumkum Bhagya actress, Pooja Banerjee cooks her own meals and experiments a lot with her food. “A few days ago, I made coconut-and-almond-flour pancakes along with Gordon Ramsay-style scrambled eggs with toasted bread for breakfast. For lunch, I made aloo methi along with roti and for dinner, I made sautéed chicken and white sauce pasta. What never changes are two things - ladoos and thecha. I like to have something spicy with my lunch, hence, I have thecha which is a chutney made of green chillies," she shares.
Neelu Vaghela wakes up at 6am to prepare her food for the day
Aye Mere Humsafar actress Neelu Vaghela not only indulges in eating, but loves to cook too. She wakes up everyday at 6am to cook her food, before setting off for work. “Gatte ki sabzi is my favourite. You're also likely to find bhindi, matar paneer and French beans in my dabba often. Since I am from Marwar, rice and sweets are an essential part of my food. There has to be something sweet in my tiffin - right from kheer to custard, and cakes to jaggery," informs the actress.
It’s not just one dabba, but an entire food basket for Helly Shah
The Ishq Mein Marjawan 2 actress takes an entire food basket to the sets. “For breakfast, I like having paneer paratha, poha, upma, idli, or even cheela. I also carry fruits. There's one small box for dry fruits that I indulge in whenever I feel hungry before lunch. My lunch usually consists of dal-chawal, roti and a big bowl of sabzi. In the evenings, I like to snack on homemade kurmuras," shares Helly.
For Smita Bansal, chocolate and laddoos are her energy boosters
Aladdin - Naam Toh Suna Hoga actress, Smita Bansal ensures that her dabba is full of nutritious food. “I carry a complete meal that consists of roti-sabzi-dal and some salad. I always make it a point to carry a chocolate and some homemade ladoos as energy boosters on the set. I look forward to days when my cook gives me something else apart from the regular meal, like chole or rajma. The best days are when I get paratha with pickle for breakfast,” she says.
