Shiv - Grey? Crazy? Just Delusional (Character Analysis)

Shiv has been one complicated character. When he was introduced, we saw an honest and upright government officer, leading a rich and luxurious life, but very simple at heart. He loved his family, especially his daughter and was extremely worried because he couldn't find her the man of her life. The fact that his daughter could not speak troubled him more than anything.

He met Prakash, his old school friend and friendship was rekindled. There was genuine affection for him. But in those scenes when Prakash came to his home, there was a wall somewhere. Shiv was not completely open like Prakash. May be that was his nature. When he got to know about Yogi, prospects ran in his mind immediately. He knew Prakash and his family and felt Gunjan would get a wonderful life at the Srivastavs. He didn't give a thought about Yogi, his personality, nature, etc. It was Family which mattered to Shiv the most.

Doubts started to climb from the moment Yogi secretly entered the house to see Gunjan. He could not see the innocence behind the action. He couldn't see that Yogi and Gunjan loved each other, which Seema clearly saw. Yet, he went to Srivastavs to discuss arrangements. When the family made fun when he talked about dowry, there was relief in Shiv's face. Again, Gunjan would be part of this family, and she would be happy. Never a thought about Yogi.

When people started talking about how someone like Gunjan would get someone like Yogi only-both disabled, Shiv couldn't take it. It was like questioning his ability to find a normal boy. ANd when Pradeep Chauhan placed the prospect of his "normal" son marrying Gunjan, it was a split decision for Shiv. Yogi-Gunjan cannot happen. All the confusion that happened after that was just to justify his decision to break the marriage. Till this juncture, I thought Shiv to be just an over protective father who wanted the best for Gunjan. He didn't mind losing his friendship for his daughter. But what happened next was beyond my understanding.

Shiv took all his sweet time to talk to Prakash. His timing could not have been more worse. He told Prakash at the end moment that he didn't see Yogi fit for Gunjan. He kept blabbering about how Yogi can't speak, how he could not save Gunjan because of that etc. He felt at least one should be able to talk in a relationship. Understandable- but telling this at the last moment? Saying he wanted the best for Gunjan and Yogi wasn't. Shattering for Prakash. But Shiv didn't seem to see anything wrong in his decision. Apalling was he didn't tell his wife or his daughter that he was going to call off wedding? Such a big decison he made it alone. He kept telling he wanted the best for his daughter but didn't consult her even once? He fixed her engagement but didn't tell Gunjan. Didn't even think it was necessary for Gunjan to meet Roshan, like him. Bas- Shiv thought he was the best choice. He manipulated Gunjan emotionally, played a cheap trick of sending message to Yogi, exaggerated to Prakash about Yogi coming to meet Gunjan- Shiv started to play a weird game where no one including himself was happy. But he had a point to prove- Roshan was a better choice than Yogi. Even yesterday, he kept saying everything will be alright when it was clear that Gunjan still loved Yogi.

Why didn't Gunjan's love matter to Shiv? Such questions made me realise - Shiv was highly delusional. He isn't black or grey. Just delusional. He is unable to see the wreck he has created- lives he had destroyed. He completely believes whatever he is doing is right. It is going to be extremely difficult to get him out of this world. Even if everyone leaves him, he is still going to think others are wrong and he is right. He needs a reality check. Not sure who is going to make him understand.

True.. A big delusional person...

Regarding reality check... There is two possibility

Cv will turn gunjan fiance negative after marriage.. Or they will show gunjan fiance is busy in work after marriage and will spend less time with gunjan...

Moreover there is no female companion in that house... And his dad is really a gone case... Gunjan will spend more time in Maayka then her sasuraal after marriage....

And then shiv will see pari getting pampered by yogi and his family....

I just feel both marriage will happens on same time..

Neat Detailed analysis on Shiv 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼Great post Shwets.

Shiv has only one weakness and one missionin his life. To see his daughter Gunjan happy and fill her life with happiness to compensate for what she has lost. Her voice. In this search of happiness he weighed her voice more than her love. He senses Yogi will never b able to match this kind of happiness he prefers for Gunjan. For him nothing seems on his priority than Gunjan’s life to b seen complete. Someone to be a partner in her life who can bring a smile though his voice. He feels Roshan is the right guy who has shown immense respect for the specially abled people. That brought a hope in him that all is not done in Gunjan’s life that he has to compromise considering Yogi as her life partner. The missing pieces in Yogi can provide a better life to Gunjan in Roshan, felt Shiv.

Considering these and being completely blind in his love for her, his mind unknowingly seeks way in the political and practical handling rather than the emotional aspect.

As mentioned by Shwets, he is into delusion that what he feels can comfort Gunjan is just not what she feels. This delusion of shiv will stay till he gets to c a clear vision of the Chauhans and that Gunjan is just a PAWN in their game of life.

I think the fiance is already negative. He dances to his father's tune. Few possibilities.

1. I feel once Roshan gets the job, Chauhan is going to call off the wedding at the end moment, just like how Shiv did.

2. Gunjan tries to win Yogi back, but Yogi is in love with Pari and hence Gunjan goes ahead with marrying Roshan. Has a bitter life. (Poor Gunjan!)

3. Pari is the one to fall in love with Yogi first. Yogi would still think of Gunjan. At end moment, he would realise Pari is the one he loves- some love triangle confusion drama.

Shiv coming to his senses? That will be a huge process. He doesn't hate Yogi or Prakash or the family. He genuinely believes a normal guy would suit his daughter better. He needs to come out of that cloud and that will probably happen when he gets to know about Pari and Yogi. Pari, a doctor, a completely normal girl loving Yogi.

Thank you :)

Absolutely right. Shiv feels Gunjan would be happier if her partner can speak to her, sing to her, etc. Could be true- but Gunjan loves Yogi and that's what Shiv isn't seeing. He doesn't want her opinion on this. And this thought had been running in his mind, even before that chandlier fall. Unintentionally, he had played with so many hearts and emotions. Now when he knows that, he doesn't seem to care. He doesn't even care if Gunjan likes Roshan. It's like he doesn't want to be called a bad father who can't find his daughter a good match.

Gunjan is a PAWN for Shiv too. Yes. He has done everything for Gunjan's happiness. Or so he says. But whatever he did, there has been a part of himself trying to find solace. Shiv seems a simple man, but there is pride. He can't stand someone questioning his decision. So before someone talks about Yogi being the right fit or not, he jumped gun.

Redemption is going to be very difficult. I don't see Prakash forgiving as he seems someone who can't forget betrayal (Waiting for his sister's track). Shiv might realise, he has ruined his daughters' life at the end.
