ENGİN AKYÜREK - SANCAR EFEOĞLU:
- He is the son of a poor man who works in the olive groves of the mayor; A peasant boy who saw nothing but Mugla.
-He always loved Nare, always carrying the pain of Nare's betrayal, hiding it in his poor boy's heart 'stabbed in the back'.
-After Nare, he became greedy, rich. He bought the olive orchards where his father worked, and now he lives in a mansion with his family. He even got married. Sancar is an Ephesus. A man who embraces his anger, anger and love is strong, his joy and pain are immense, a withdrawn man who does not like to communicate with people.
ERDAL KÜÇÜKKÖMÜRCÜ - GÜVEN ÇELEBİ:
- Ambassador, Nare's father; He is now an ambassador to Montenegro. Although he comes from a very noble family, he has a hidden weakness that will stain the honor of both his descendants and his profession - gambling. It is full of arrogance. He hates peasants, people in general, thinks he is above them. But he has a very weak character, suffocating between his weakness and arrogance.
URAZ KAYGILAROĞLU - GEDİZ IŞIKLI:
- The son of one of the oldest families in Muğla. His father was mayor of Muğla, a man beloved by locals, and Gediz a beloved businessman and partner with Sancar. When Nare returned with a child to Muğla he fell in love with her but Sancar was his best friend! Gediz is a Joker. He is a fun man, but when he gets upset, he can 'burn the world' and continue to work.
ERHAN ALPAY - AKIN VARDARLI:
-The man with whom Nare grew up in the same house, the man he knew very well considering him as a brother to her. When his very rich family died in an accident, he came under the tutelage of his father's close friend, Mr. ambassador. When he realized the legacy of the ambassador, he set his eyes on Nare. Akin is a narcissistic sociopath. He feels no responsibility for what he does and does not know what remorse means.
GONCA CİLASUN - HALİSE EFEOĞLU
- Sancar's mother. Once he worked in the mayor's house, now he is the owner of the manor of Efeoglu. He has great sympathy for Menekşe, who comes from below as she does, but hates Nare, the ambassador's daughter. She gives her life for her children, but everything else is not right; Whoever is not her descendant is an enemy.
TÜLİN YAZKAN - MENEKŞE EFEOĞLU:
- Sancar's new wife. There was already a legend with which to fight; Now the heroine of the legend, Nare, is back, and on the night of the wedding, she learns that she has a stepdaughter! He is a devil but he looks like an angel.
Did you get the English subs for the first episode?
Sefirin Kiz – Episode 1
My sabbatical from the Turkish drama is broken by the much awaited drama from Engin & Neslihan - Sefirin Kizi.
The premier episode quickly brings the conflict of the story to the audience. Did you notice a pattern on the introduction scenes of Engin’sdrama – FGSN, Olene Kader etc which is centered on a wedding or gala? While the festivities reach a climax, the suppressed silence of Sancar is tested by Kavrug(?)who shares the folklore of a scorned girl who vanished as a bird.
The non-parallel narration establishes the leads who are ina deep emotional relationship as young adults, and whose destiny is written bytraditions. While Gediz & his sister play the catalysts, Sancar’s siblings reinforce their tribe.
Flashbacks show Nare to be lonely and vulnerable young adult who cares a dime for her the pampered background; Sancar as a poor tenant farmer who has big dreams for himself.
Nare & Sancar friendship remains intact as pen pals and yearly meetings during vacations. While the friendship blossoms with innocence, there is an evident awareness of Sancar and Nare realizing that they belong to different social protocols.
They are sensitive to each other with an angelic love to guard Sancar’s insecurities of lesser education and economies or Nare’s deeply seated emotions.
While many theories on why did Sancar reject Nare on the (clandestine?)wedding have been written ( equally enjoyed reading them), here is another view….along with rush of male testosterone which was governed by traditions, rejected by pride etc, there seems to be condition bias from Sancar for being poor and thus naïve. Was he humiliated by Nare’s father during the wedding? Was he disapproved of his choice by his family? Maybe…the toll of taking on the rest of the world for his ladylove became a burden when Nare failed her virginity test.
Why Nare choose the wedding night to share her misery? Did she want to reset her life during the sanctity of marriage?
Nare on the run, is focused to secure her daughter’s future and Sancar becomes her natural choice. Surprisingly, the only inquiry on Sancar while talking to Gediz is to understand how & when did Sancar become a wealthy man.!!
Money can’t buy happiness.
The extended cast have done a wonderful job to keep the story in nuances….Sancar’s family…his anne as mother hen, siblings ( there must be a reason for his sister to be limping…is it polio?) , Yahya’s wife to give comic relief ( reminds us of Yeli Gelin drama), Kavrug acting as a soothsayer and last but not the least of Gediz.
Is Gediz the sophisticated version of Sancar? Why are writers putting a Japanese connect to Gediz and Nare? Very intriguing character andplayed to the T…be it the bromance, countenance of successful business man or an eligible bachelor. Please don’t turn him grey.
The cast and crew have done a fabulous job to keep the audience engaged with beautiful camera shots, music and locations. Neslihan is a discovery :). And Engin is simply the best.
Episode 2 -Synopsis
This episode was largely to establish the relationship of Sancar & his daughter Melek. Sancar's extended family to accept the fact of DNA result & thus adding youngest member to their clan.
While Nare realises, its not final kill at the monster, Gediz moves around the central characters with agility to keep his intentions guessing.
Will come back with detailed review on this episode
