Dean never had any deep feelings for her.. it was just attraction coz he had the mark of Cain.. and he was the first person she saw after being released from wherever her brother imprisoned her..
So.. she was attracted to him, but like Dean said in the end.. (which was most unconvincing btw), she just wanted God to pay attention to her.. anyone.. so she found Dean was attracted to her, hence started warming up to him.. Once God forgave her and she healed him.. they were family afterall.. all those feelings for Dean vanished.. 😆silly i know.. but 😆 the makers.. wanted to somehow justify both Darkness and God being gone from the scene for now.. so they converted everything into one big happy family and left it hanging..
This season, its all new.. the effects of the mark are long gone.. so is Dean's whatever he had for Amara.. maybe they are still in the bg.. afterall God did say This earth has you two (Sam and Dean) to take care of it.. so they are sort of leaving everything in the past.

Thats what everybody is so frustrated about... entire 5th and 6th season was a diff SPN and this one is a diff one... that time, Sam needed copious amt of blood to become powerful enough for Lucifer's vessel.. and he jumped into the cage to banish Lucifer... then last season... he could inhabit the vessel of a mere angel Castiel? And the entire 5th season the angels wanted Dean and Sam as vessels for Michael and Lucifer.. brothers of same bloodline for the arch angels... somehow how did Cass fit into this family, giving up of your body as a vessel business.. the makers have no answers..
and did Mark's vessel ( i dont know the vessel's name though) disintegrate after he possessed Cass? Why is he needing to possess vessels and stuff?? Although they did show him asking Sam for permission.. last season, when Sam didnt, Cass gave permission..
No... the actor is busy with another show.. so bringing him back would have been a bit difficult.. plus acc to the makers, since Dean united the Darkness with God, in return she bought back Mary as a debt of gratitude...
