Shivam Dube set to bag unique feat in IPL

Shivam Dube is one hit away from achieving a special feat in the cash-rich league. The CSK power-hitter has 99 sixes to his name. Dube needs one more maximum to join icons MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja in the elite six-hitters list.

Let's talk about MS Dhoni

IPL 2024, PBKS vs CSK IPL Live Score: Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings - Former CSK skipper MS Dhoni has a strike rate of 45.45 against PBKS pacer Kagiso Rabada. The CSK icon has scored only 10 runs off 22 balls against the South African pacer. Dhoni strikes at 55.88 against Rahul Chahar and the former India skipper has 19 runs off 34 balls. Dhoni has smashed 25 runs in 32 balls against Harshal Patel with a strike rate of 78.12.

Can Ruturaj Gaikwad alter his toss luck vs PBKS in Dharamsala?smiley1

IPL 2024, PBKS vs CSK IPL Live Score: Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings - CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has lost nine tosses out of a possible 10 in the ongoing season of the cash-rich league. Gaikwad admitted that he is 'under pressure' after losing nine tosses in the first 10 games of CSK's title-defending season. Gaikwad lost the toss when CSK last met PBKS in the IPL 2024. After the match, Gaikwad said that he practised tosses at the CSK camp. “I've practiced the tosses (during the practice sessions), it's not going well in the match, not sure what to do. To be truthful, I'm under pressure when I go to the middle for the toss," the CSK skipper said. Can Ruturaj Gaikwad alter his rotten toss luck vs PBKS in Dharamsala?

Thanks for the tag.🙂

Hope CSK wins. But I'm losing confidence on them. All good players are leaving or injured. Batsman are also not so strong. Totally dependent on Ruturaj and Dube.

They hardly use Mitchell and Moeen Ali

They don't have good local Indian fast bowlers or spinner s in their bench.

Even if they have thy won't try them.

It's not yet panic stations as it was in 2010 but with the playoffs race heating up considerably, the defending champions know that more slip-ups will put their qualification hopes in jeopardy.

After a promising start to the season with four wins in six games, CSK slipped to three losses in their next four games, including two at home in Chepauk. After the high-flying success in 2023, the batting approach this year has come under scrutiny with the over-dependence on Shivam Dube clearly visible during the middle overs phase.

The powerplay hasn't been explosive either as Ajinkya Rahane's form remains a concern.

In contrast, Punjab Kings are riding a wave of confidence. After registering the highest-ever T20 run chase at the Eden Gardens against KKR, beating CSK at Chepauk was just the tonic they needed to gather steam towards the business end of the tournament.

They might be a volatile unit, more so in the batting department, but when they come off, PBKS are a very hard team to stop. A lot of their initial worries in the tournament boiled down to the top-order failure and inefficiency in death bowling. It meant that the uncapped players in Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma had to do the heavy-lifting, which they did with aplomb.

Thnk u for tagging me

Good luck to both the teams

The battle for qualification is heating up with all 10 teams still in contention mathematically. The picturesque Dharamsala plays backdrop today as PBKS, placed 8th on the table, host CSK who're sitting at 5th place.

Dharamsala. Punjab Kings versus Chennai Super Kings. Sunday afternoon game. CSK, in the midst of an indifferent run, desperately needing a win; Punjab riding a recent wave of success and confidence. This is IPL 2010 IPL 2024.

14 years ago, CSK arrived in the foothills of the Himalayas, knowing nothing but a victory would suffice. With about two overs left, they seemed to have missed the semi-final bus. But then, MS Dhoni turned up, and that evening in Dharamsala changed CSK forever.

In 2024, there is a different man in charge. He, like Dhoni, is waiting for that real breakthrough as CSK captain, and in surroundings very familiar to CSK, he will have a chance to reach out for it and grab it.

Punjab, at this stage, are two points worse off than CSK. But a win, and they will go level, having played the same number of games. While a case can be made that CSK can probably afford to lose another, the Kings do not have that luxury. They have to, realistically, win all four remaining games and then see where it takes them (although there is a slight mathematical thread they can still cling on to).

So, this is it. The kind of high-stakes, high-jeopardy game the IPL usually throws up in its final league quarter. Margins will be fine, the room for error perhaps finer. Neither side, unlike CSK in 2010, will definitively qualify today nor be eliminated, but if these teams want to make the top four, neither can really lose this either.

Hello and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's live coverage of the IPL. This is Match 53: Punjab Kings versus Chennai Super Kings. Lots at stake, lots to look forward to, and if you are a fan of T20 cricket, you'd not want to be anyplace else on a Sunday afternoon!

The memories will be fresh because these teams went up against each other in just their last game. Fortress Chepauk was breached that night as PBKS managed to claim a 7 wicket victory. CSK haven't quite been the juggernaut they've been in the years passed and a win today will go a long way in setting them back on track to make the playoffs. In fact, the situation is quite simple for them - win their 4 remaining games and they are through. As for Punjab, things are slightly more complicated. It's been another topsy-turvy season where they've blown hot and blown cold.
