Wow! What a heated debate. Ok guys here's the thing. And remember this is coming from one of the biggest Alka ji fans ever!
First off. Opinions are opinions. They aren't going to be shared. They aren't going to be the same. Each person has different feelings on everything. And they absolutely should. So if she receives a lower score by some, I am no one to be against that person or that rating. Similarly if a higher score is given for a performance that wasn't so deserving of a high score then I am no one to judge that either. Each individual has a right to judge the way they want, as long as it is within reasons. If some feel that she was expressionless, then that's their thoughts. No one has to agree with it at all. Views differ. Its just how it is.
Secondly, I've stated this numerous times. Guys let's not get heated here with the ratings. Alka ji doesn't need any of us to judge her. Similarly neither does Shreya or Sadhna or any other singer in that matter. Who are we to judge such talents anyways? They have all made a name for themselves. This is merely a competition that was brought in for some fun element and interaction between IF members. It was started for some fun and games! No need to get to touchy and personal about it. Its all good! Winner or not, Alka ji is the one of the best singers we have in our industry. Even her critics can't deny that fact!
Thirdly I think (again my opinion) for her to take on a song that is male dominated, is something that should be noted positively. She took the risk to do that. Give her some credit at least. She may not have conveyed the same feeling that Kumar ji did when he sung it, BUT she wasn't that terrible either. Again she has done many stage and live performances. I agree this wasn't her best, but neither was it the worst.
Coming to expressions. I agree to some extent that body language does matter when we are talking about live stage performances. But I clearly didn't see any flaws in that for this performance. Yes it could have been a tad bit better, but I think she was fairly good with maintaining her expressions. After all Alka ji is the "queen of expressions." And when she takes on a male dominated song, obviously she won't be able to convey the same feelings that Kumar ji did. Yet don't you think she deserves some credit for going above and beyond and attempting a song that she didn't even sing (except one antara)?
