Well popular implies she was the favourite of the people. That was probably true too. What I'm saying is that she was the most noticeable and most heard voice on albums (especially hit albums) in the 90's. She had considerable influence with recording companies too.

Definition of dominant: Someone or something that is dominant is more powerful, successful, influential, or noticeable than other people or things

There you go.

Well I guess I can say Kavita was arguably more dominant too since she had arguably more success based on your definition.

So at the end of the day, more dominant is arguable. And that's what I was saying.

But she was never the clear-cut "Best" singer in the 90s, or "Without a doubt the premier female playback singer" at any point in the 90s. I think we could agree on that.

Look at you go again. Without supporting your opinion. She was the most dominant based on what? You've said it's so "obvious" and "without a doubt" Alka was the most dominant in the 90s. I've said it was debatable and not clear-cut. And I've supported myself already.

So exactly what are you basing your opinion on?

In the 90s, for filmfare,

Kavita had 12 nominations and 3 wins.
Alka had 16 nominations, and 2 wins.

So as you can see, it was not clear-cut on either side.

So exactly what are you basing your opinion on? Singing? You want to claim she sang better than Kavita in the 90s? Or what? Because those filmfare nominations/awards also factor in how big of a hit the song was too. Alka was not without a doubt the best singer in the 90s for bollywood.

When you wrote this, what did you think I meant by dominant? Clearly you didn't think I meant 'popular'. Did you think I meant 'best singer'? Coz Dominant does not mean Best Singer...

Oh wait, you were just mindlessly stirring...

I am not saying Alka was the best female singer in the 90's. So we can definitely agree on the bold part. But she was more dominant (by which I mean most heard/most used voice - I don't care whether that suits your definition or not).

Why do I say she was more dominant? Well, if we look at the highest selling soundtracks of Bollywood (most of whch were in the 90's) you will find that Alka Yagnik was the most commonly heard female singer. Check out the top 30 here.

I don't know where you are from. But most "dominant" singer, basketball player, team, fighter, etc.
all are used to describe someone who destroys his competition. So the most dominant basketball player, would mean a basketball player who was basically unstoppable and just better than everyone. Most dominant team would be the team who continuously embarrassed other teams and easily wins. And so on.

In other words, most dominant and best have close relations.

This is funny. Because you are bringing albums. And there are many albums that had both Alka and Kavita.

But once again, Alka was probably the clear-cut most popular/common, but I wouldn't say best. That's debatable for sure.

How does it matter where I'm from?

Yes exactly that's why I called her dominant! She started off the decade with competition int he form of Kavita, Anuradha, Sadhana and to an extent Alisha too. But she emerged as the most heard/most used voice in the decade. She beat the competition.

In fact, the only other female singers to have superhit 90's albums to their name were Lata-Asha (for obvious reasons) and Anuradha Paudwal because she was close to Gulshan Kumar. Even the soundtrack of Dil, was originally all sung by Alka, but then Gulshan used his influence to force the composers to redub the songs in Anuradha's voice.

Yes there were. But check out the top 30 albums. How many songs in those albums did Alka have and how many did Kavita have? You will find Alka had many more.

Alka Yagnik was too high-pitched in this one. I didn't feel the vibe somehow. Too....IDK how too explain it, but it wasn't good by her standards. A 7!
