Ofcourse it wasn't a coincidence that they both gave him coins.....but my point was what did Adi even ponder after holding both the coins in his hand? Only one thought....Malini hurt ho gayi๐. He didn't ponder over the contrast of the two coins in his hand.....everything once again got limited to "Malini hurt ho gayi".....nothing before or after that.
By pondering I mean that much only. At this stage Aditya is incapable of thinking beyond Malini . He's too deeply concerned about what may or may not hurt her. In a way that scene where Aditya is kneeling before her , holding her thighs and soothing her reminded me of the scene where Moon got locked inside the room N Imlie witnessed their intimacy and later Aditya saying really terrible things to her ,literally calling her his sabse badi galti.
Now why am I saying all these ?? Whenever Malini gets hurt and petulant over Imlie or Imlie is somehow in the picture, Aditya's kneejerk reaction to damage control the situation is to belittle Imlie, thereby instantly making Malini happy. During these times the mask of extra goodness falls off her face and we see the very human very flawed Malini who instantly gets satisfied by the reassurance that for Aditya Imlie means nothing and she's everything , instead of getting shocked or protesting why Aditya talking about Imlie in such a manner. Many instances come to mind, when Malini was behaving similarly when she found out Imlie was brought by Aditya from Pagdandiya and he hadn't mentioned it to her, she behaved like this in the mall and Aditya promptly said Imlie is nothing. Also in the hospital after her fainting episode, Aditya called Imlie jootein mein phansi kankar and she was adequately soothed.
This time Aditya didn't at least call Imlie such similar derogatory things to pacify her. Doesn't that count as improvement?? He again and again reiterated her importance but didn't resort to the cheap way of name calling Imlie like he has always done.
Honestly some times we forget what a monster he'd been to Imlie, especially whenever his precious Malini gets hurt so that we miss to appreciate the amount of growth in Aditya's character.
Malini is still the most important person in Aditya's life so whenever she's hurt and upset it's only expected that all other thoughts will leave his mind . If it was the Aditya from before , the moment Malini left the room he'd have taken out the Imlie's coin and thrown it in the dustbin in frustration that it's the root cause of her hurt. But here he didn't blame her and just sad that Malini was saddened.
And I personally didn't appreciate the makers trying to show that Malini-Imlie think in the same way....cuz that's just not true....it hasn't happened in the story before this....they are different in their thinking....but just for the purpose of this scene when poor Imlie gave Adi the most valuable thing she had left, the makers insisted on duplicating that by showing Malini with the same. And to make it worse, they then didn't leave any opportunity for Adi to even dwell on the value of Imlie's gift because the whole scene shifted to Malini demanding attention and him groveling in front of her.....lol
That is kind of the point though ,isn't it ?? The value that is imposed on a gift by our heart is often times directly related to the value of the person in our lives. Malini's coin does not have the heartfelt sentiment or emotional value or history attached to it's coin but since it is given by Malini who by herself is enough, it's equally important for Aditya so that it's holding it's own place in a palm. No matter how valuable a gift Imlie gives him and no matter how much he's momentarily touched or affected by the gesture ,the moment Malini comes into picture all that goes out of the window, and Aditya all but forgets the effect and Imlie is literally left standing outside Aditya's room and heart while Malini is rightfully inside.
Adi acknowledged Imlie's value in his life on his own today and that was a big step, but within moments of that, Malini demanded his attention and fealty in a sense, and all thoughts of Imlie flew from his mind yet again.....which left me wondering if there was even any point to him remembering Imlie in that Thank You speech to begin with when it didn't follow up to anything worthwhile๐
It was a scrap thrown at us to be satisfied for now. Though if it were left to my opinion ( I'm a petty and bitter person after all ๐) if you can't acknowledge a person aloud in front of the world what value it has of remembering them . Basically to emphasize the same point the difference of place Malini and Imlie holds in his lives. Malini is the ruler of his heart and home and life and Imlie is like saaya or shadow, always there but not really seen or appreciated.
