Varun Kothhari aka. Tappu (played by Yash Pandit) The Average Guy

Varun is the eldest son of the Kotharis and he works in the family-run sari store. He is a quiet Gujju guy, with all typical traits of a Gujju business man - soft spoken, polite and has the knack of selling any thing. In spite of being the elder son of the family, Varun does not have too much say in any of the family affairs and always finds himself at the back end.Quiet by nature and not too well versed in the art of wooing, or even conversing with a woman - unless he's selling her clothes - Varun envies his younger brother, Aditya, and even tries to learn a lesson or two from him in playing the field but every effort of his is in vain. His father hates Varun because he reminds him of his own failures.Varun is also extremely methodical and likes to stick to a routine. He hates trying anything new and will go to great lengths to stay within the tried and tested. He prefers home-cooked food and does not like eating out.

Avantika Trivedi(played by Dimple Jhangiani) The Dreamer

Avantika has been living with her grandfather ever since she lost her parents at a very young age. In spite of being brought up with a lot of care, she still yearns the love of a family. She has her heart in the right place, but always manages to get her way.She is an attractive girl; a livewire, who loves to dream, loves to dance and lives her life to the fullest. She is affable, very open-hearted, and gets a lot of good will and love form everyone around her. She knows she will be married after finishing college, and is quite looking forward to being part of the family of her dreams.Surely the ideal guy won't be too hard to find. She wants to be in love, but doesn't quite have a clear image of the man of her dreams. But she does want a family that will love and accept her.

Aditya Kothhari aka. Adi (played by Manish Raisinghania) Prankster and the rebel

Varun's younger brother, he is charming, flirtatious, outgoing, adventurous, loves parties, believes in trying everything at least once, and quite a fitness freak. He is currently working on a six pack.At 24, he too helps his father in expanding the family business. Suave and street smart, Aditya or Adi as he's fondly called is the other extreme of his meek brother. He knows how to extract money among other things from his miser dad.For Aditya, love has already happened and cannot happen again. Marriage thus is a necessity more to silence the pressures of his mother than his need for a life partner. So Aditya is ready to fulfill his responsibilities as a husband, but he is not ready to love. He agrees to marry Rajshree because she seems like the girl who would keep his parents happy. Beyond this there are no feelings that he has for her, and somewhere he probably hopes that being the simple, nave girl she is, she will take his distance as propriety and not disregard.

Rajshree Goradia (played by Harshada Khadepar) The traditional wife

She is Varun's best friend Gajendra's sister. She is the typical girl that would fit the bill of a matrimonial advertisement. She is a quiet, homely, girl who believes in putting others needs before hers. She has been brought up with the idea of marriage, the ideal kind, where the wife does everything she can to please not only her husband, but his entire family.She goes to the temple everyday and keeps a fast almost every second day. She loves Aditya and makes frequent trips to the Kothari household to get a glimpse of Adi and get noticed by him... In spite of doing everything right, all of Rajshree's attempts to get acknowledged by Adi end up futile, until one day, where lady luck gives Rajshree her brightest smile.

Daada Ji

He is elder of Kothari Family. Father of Muffatlal & grand father of Tappu,Adi & Paro. He is very Lazy by nature. He is a diabetes patient but still he never miss any chance of eating sweets. He is very scared of her wife. He loves his family very much. He always wins bet/challenge from the Servant Ram. Basically sometimes his lazy nature makes humor the situition.

Daadi Ji or Baa

She is elder woman of Kothari family. She rules the Family. She is very traditional & strict by nature but also loves her family very much specially Tappu/Varun. She has made some rules & regulations for family. All in one, She is a good example of Perfect housewife.

Maffat Lal Kotthari

He is Tappu,Adi & Paro's Father.& Anuradha's husband. Dadaji & Baa's only son. He is very miser by nature which makes people around him irritated by him. He is a saree shop owner & very concern about his bussiness. He loves gain & hates loss. He has full faith on Aditya while he scolds Varun everytime for any carelessness in bussiness.

Anuradha

She is Muffatlal's wife & Tappu,Adi & Paro's mother. She is a perfect daughter-in-law, Wife & Mother. She loves her family very much. She is fed up with her husband's miser habits. She like Rajshree very much & always supports her. She knows about Rajshree's feeling towards Aditya. Very loving, Kind & Heplful by nature.

Paro

She is Anuradha & Muffatlal''s only Daughter and Tappu & Adi's only Sister. Paro & Rajshree are very good friends. She is dependant on Rajshree for her many works. She is modern by nature. A cute,bubby & carefree girl who loves her family very much specially her big brother Tappu.

Kundan

Kundan is brother of Anuradha & Uncle(Mama) of Tappu,Adi & Paro. He is famous as Kundan Mama. He has his own style coz of which he is still a bachelor. He arranges marriage proposal for Tappu. He is one of the funny charcter of the show. He is related to media profesionally.

Gajender Godaria

He is Rajshree's only brother & Kothari's neighbour. He is best friend of Tappu/Varun. He resembles to Tappu in many qualities. He irritates Muffatlal from his stupid questions...He always being concer for Tappu & that's why he gives Tappu some filmy tips to impress girls.

Grandfather & his Friends

Avantika's grandfather father(Daddu)...He is a retired Army officer. He is very frank,Childish,naughty & modern by nature. He loves & cares Avantika a lot. So he always concern for her marriage.

Daddu's friend are very funny by nature & always pressurize Daddu for Avantika's marriage. They provide humor by their filmy tips...Daddu & His friends scared from Avantika a lot.

Avantika's friends

Both of them are naughty, bubbly & modern by nature.Both always supports Avantika. Perfect example of True friends.

Jignesh

He is also Avantika's friend. He too supports Avantika always...He is the only male in Avantika's friend circle. He loves Mallika from first site & is in search if her.

Mallika

She is Aditya's girlfriend whom Aditya loves a lot & wants to marry her but being a model & sophisticated by nature, she is using Aditya for his money. She is greedy & ready to maary Aditya for a secure financial future. Currently she is dating with a rich guy Pinkesh & loved by Jignesh too. She misused Rajshree many time by emotionally blacked her(Rajshree) just for her own benefit

We are the product of the experiences we have lived through, and the relationships we have survived. Little wonder then that the romantic ideas of 'true love' and 'soul mates' abound freely, and young people are always looking out for a perfect companion for life.

But what really is 'perfect'? And how does one arrive at a perfect match? The never-ending debate about couple-hood is, 'what makes a successful long-term relationship - is it a love marriage or an arranged alliance?' But there isn't any error-proof method or a clear barometer to ever figure that one out.

At first sight, it may seem that two people are perfect together if they have the same preferences or that diametrically opposite personalities are perfect together because they fit like a jig-saw. But one can never unmistakably predict the success of a couple's journey; not by judging their personalities, or even matching their horoscopes.

A heart-broken divorcee once said that the downfall of her first marriage was that she and her husband were so alike; they could complete each other's sentences. There could be no secrets between them. There were no surprises. It got boring. "What about the second?" her friend asked. "That was because we were poles apart!" she exclaimed.

The truth is, wedlock, or even getting into a relationship, is a gamble… a risk that two people take when they decide to become vulnerable and let another person into their world. And ultimately, it is each one's individual perspective, the understanding between the two, and their own unique home-grown formula of living under the same roof with minimal friction, that could help them find togetherness. Perhaps, the only approach is to dive in and hope to God that you will swim to the other shore together.

Hum Dono Hain Alag Alag is the story of two odd couples, how they come together, their conflicts and how they work around the strange situation they find themselves in. Very simply, it is a reflection of how hilarious life can be.

Episode #1: Kothari family is concerned about the marriage of Tappu aka Varun Kothari. Who has been rejected by 21 prospective life partners. Varun's younger brother, Aditya's lovestory is also derailed till the time Varun's marriage does not get fixed. Today 22nd girl is coming to meet Varun!

Episode #2: Rajshri is in love with Aditya since childhood but Aditya doesn't even know her name properly. She tries to catch his attention. In the meantime Tappu sees the girl of his dream, Avantika, and it is love at first sight for him. But his track record with the opposite sex has not been good so far!

Episode #3: Aditya is amazed and happy to see his brother Tappu in love for the first time. But Tappu does not even know the name of the girl or where she lives. It is now left on Aditya to devise a plan!

Episode #4: Aditya somehow manages to convince Mafatlal to his plans. Tappu is ecstatic that he would finally know where his girl of his dream lives. On the other Avantika is unaware of Tappu's existence. Fate has something in store for them!

Episode #5: Destiny brings Tappu and Avantika face to face once again but before Tappu can even get to know her name Avantika goes away. Tappu doesn't even manage to get to know her name. But he hasn't lost all hope as yet for Kundan Mana has come to help Tappu out in his endeavour.

Episode #6: Daddu has arranged for a prospective husband to meet Avantika. But Avantika has her own plans. Adi gets an idea to introduce Mallika to his family. But he needs Rajshri to help him in doing so.

Episode #7: Rajshri is ecstatic that she is going to be the model for the advertisement of the sale. Avantika and gang plan a de-glamourised makeover for Avantika for the army guy that Daddu has called. But Daddu also has an ace up his sleeve for Avantika!

Episode #8: Rajshri's heart breaks when she realizes that Mallika is the real model of the advertisement being shot. But she keeps a brave front. Tappu is wishing for good will of anyone who comes his way so that he can fulfill his wish of meeting Avantika soon. Avantika comes across the sale pamphlet decides to go there to buy a sari for her deglam look.

Episode #9: Tappu is excited as today might be the day that he finally gets to meet Avantika during the sale in his shop. The sale is thronged by women, but Tappu still waits with the faint hope that Avantika will turn up. Tappu cant believe his luck to see Avantika enter the shop.

Episode #10: Daddu's plans to make Avantika like the army guy he had chosen for her go awry. Having seen Avantika, Adi decides to train Tappu and takes Mallika's help for this task. A nervous Tappu is at his wits end with Mallika in the park but is unaware of the fact that Avantika has seen him there.

Episode #11: Avantika can't get the guy out of her mind who had a girl running after him. She wants to find out more about that guy. On the other hand, Tappu has taken a mannat that till the time he does not meet Avantika he will not talk to Gajendra. Adi is made to give a ride to Rajshri on his bike. But trouble awaits him on the next bend!

Episode #12: Tappu's mannat of not talking to Gajendra lands leads to funny repercussions! Mallika reaches Adi's house after seeing him with Rajshri. Adi and Mallika plan to involve Rajshri in training Tappu.

Episode #13: Adi takes Rajshri's help in training Tappu. Rajshri is heartbroken when she realises that the lines said by Adi to her were just a part of Tappu's training. Daddu sends Avantika back to Mafat's sari shop to return the extra sari that had come in the packet. Tappu meanwhile is busy learning the poem to impress Avantika!

Episode #14: Avantika comes to Mafat's sari shop and is impressed to hear Tappu reciting the poetry. Tappu sees Avantika but by the time he comes to stop her Avantika goes away. Avantika feels the the man reciting the poetry might be the same as the man in the park whom she saw the other day!

Episode #15: Tappu is very happy as finally he is able to recite the poem he is very exited about this. Avantika comes to return the extra saree which she toke it from the sale by mistake. Unknowing Rajshree drags Avantika to Tappu's house. Adi is surprised to see Avantika and sends chitthi to Tappu to dress up properly as his dream girl has come. Tappu sees avantika form his room and he is tensed on how to present himself.

Episode #16: Adi is trying to stop Avantika until Tappu comes, but he can't do that. So he takes her phone number. Tappu is exited to have her number but somehow he misplaces it. Adi goes to Mallika's home and does tareef of her in front of his family that she makes excellent khnadvi when Mallika is not a good cook. And dadi tells Mallika to make khandvi. Now Adi is in a fix.

Episode #17: Rajshree helps Mallika in making khandvi that is appreciated by everyone in the family and Mallika makes a good impression. While Avantika is waiting for Tappu's call, Tappu is upset as he misplaces Avantika's Phone number.

Episode #18: Tappu calls Avantika but is scared to ask her out for a date. Anuradha notices that Rajshree has feelings for Adi. Mafat takes away Tappu's mobile in which Tappu had saved Avantika's number. Now Tappu is worried and goes to Adi for help.

Episode #19: Tappu and Adi somehow manage to take Avantika's number from Mafat. Tappu calls Avantika and asks her to meet him at a coffee shop. Avantika is wating for Tappu at coffee shop but Tappu is held up. While helping Avantika's daddu who has just met with an accident.

Episode #20: Tappu cant reach on time to meet Avantika for the date as he is held up helping Avantika's daddu who has met with an accident. A furious Avantika calls Tappu and fires him for standing her up following a conversation with daddu, Avantika realizes that Tappu might be the same guy who helped her grandfather so she calls Tappu again to apologize and ask him out for another date.

Episode #21: Tappu meets with a small accident on the way for his second date with Avantika. Since his clothes get sullied and his specs broken, he has to buy a whole new wardrobe for his date will Tappu manage to impress Avantika with compromised vision and clothes he isn't used to?

Episode #22: Avantika is super impressed with Tappu. Both are happy and excited after the date. Avantika tells her friends that Tappu has almost all qualities of her dream man and wants to meet him again to know him more Avantika calls up Tappu. Tappu is desperate to receive the call but Adi stops him from doing so and asks him to play hard to get.

Episode #23: Tappu is upset with Adi with not letting him talk to Avantika. Adi tells him that it's all a plan to make Avantika pine for him really hard. Dadi tells all that she wants to give a surprise party to Dadaji on his birthday. Rajshri plans the perfect gift for dadaji.

Episode #24: Gajendra can't see Tappu dejected for not being able to talk to Avntika. He decides to take Tappu to Avantika's house so that he can atleast catch a glimpse of her. In Kothari household birthday preperations are on full swing. Mallika arrives but soon realizes that Rajshri's gift is better than hers.

Episode #25: Avantika calls tappu from her friend cell. Tappu picks up the call. Avantika ask him regarding avoiding her call & decide never to call Tappu again! Tappu meets Daddu not realizing that he is Avantika's grandfather.

Tappu and Avantika miss meeting each other once again! Birthday party is on full swing. Anuradha gets a courier. Dadaji cuts the cake and asks Anu to feed him the first bite. Anuradha is in a dilemma for only she knows what had come through courier!

Episode #26: Rajshri's gift for Dadji is ridiculed. Anuradha makes Rajshri confess about her love for Adi. Misunderstanding ensues as Anuradha talks to Mafat about Rajshri being the perfect bride for Adi while Mafat thinks that she is talking about Adi and Mallika. Rajshri is happy thinking that she is going to get married to Adi.

Episode #27: Tappu is upset that Avantika is angry on him. Adi suggests that to salvage the situation, Tappu should propose marriage to Avantika. Anuradha sends Adi to buy shagun for her bahu, but Mafat clears her misconception after Adi and Rajshri leave to buy the jewelllery!

Episode #28: Anuradha is tensed that Rajshri will undergo heartbreak when she finds out the truth. She is unable to save the situation due to Mallika's presence. Matters get worse when Mallika accepts Adi's marraige proposal. Rajshri gets to know the truth and is shocked.

Episode #29: Rajshri breaks down as her dream comes crashing down. Anuradha feels bad and apologizes to her. On the other hand Avantika agrees to meet the guy of Daddu's choice but is in for a surprise when Tappu calls her to propose!

Episode #30: Adi and Mallika meet Pinkesh Patel. Mallika is mighty impressed with PP's falshy ways. Tappu is depressed that Avantika has said no to his proposal of marriage. Omkarnath talks to Mafat about Tappu's marriage for his grand daughter. Tappu doesn't know that Omkarnath's grand daughter is no one else but Avantika!

Episode #31: Avantika is shocked to see tappu and his family at her house. She is confused to see Tappu dressed like a nerd and misunderstands it as a ploy to repel the prospective bride. In a conversation with Avantika, Tappu realizes that Avantika has grossly misunderstood the entire situation and decides to come clean to her.

Episode #32: All await with bated breath for Avantika's answer. Finally Avantika says yes for Tappu. All are thrilled but Tappu knows that he is not what Avantika believes him to be. Tappu decides to tell her the truth!

Episode #33: Gajendra consoles Rajshri and she gets to know that he knew about her loving Adi all the while. Rajshri decides to put some distance between her and Adi. Tappu is unable to tell the truth to Avantika. Tappu shares his dilemma with Adi.

Episode #38: Daddu and the Triputi manage to change Tappu's sherwani but are worried as they are unable to do anything about his glasses. Finally Tappu comes out wearing a nice pair of shades. Later it's revealed that Tappu has got conjunctivitis so he is wearing the shades. Avantika's image of Tappu is once again saved. Both the couples get engaged. This is followed by a dandiya raas. Amonst all this celebration Avantika's friends find some pics of Tappu in his real avatar and are shocked.

Episode #39: Both the couples are enjoying the dandiya raas. However Avantika's friends find pics of tappu in his real avatar and try to tell the truth to Avantika but daddu and his friends somehow manage to prevent Avantika from knowing the truth. The friends now decide to find the letter that daddu had been referring to. On the other hand, Rajshree, unable to bear the situation any more, decides to leave and go back to her native place but Adi asks her not to go away and Rajshree finally agrees to wait.

Episode #40: The preparations for the twin wedding are in full swing in Kothari house. Avantika is all excited about her marraige but her friends are still trying their level best to find the letter that they had heard daddu and Triputi talk about. On the other hand Revati sees a better prospect for Mallika in Pinkesh. Avantika is about to leave for the marriage when Jignesh discovers the letter!
