Totally agree. Mahen's character is very confusing. On one hand he supports Pratibha when she least expects it - be it going to the reunion, or taking her side when Pihu took Sunidhi instead of Pratibha for the PTM. So I can't say he's completely oblivious or a TOTAL jerk - coz he has backed her up a few times - enough to establish that he's not an idiot and does have a sense of justice or fairness. His sense of fairness was also shown when he treated Namrata well - yes she's the "evil" chachi's daughter but she has nothing to do with the conflict between the elders therefore shouldn't have to pay for it. That was good.
On the other hand Mahen is also very quick to jump to conclusions and humiliate Pratibha at the drop of a hat.
My take is Mahen is so used to Pratibha being a doormat, people pleaser, peace maker etc that he's used to her going above and beyond to keep things in order for him so that his life - be it at home or work - can run smoothly. However if anything poses a threat to that equilibrium or is a threat to the status quo he lashes out.
Going off on Pratibha coz of the awkwardness at the reunion or invites being burned - all of those are examples of the status quo being thrown off. Pratibha at the reunion amongst old friends would spark an interest in hobbies she's given up - that would take away from her being the peacemaker/homemaker she's always been. Likewise burning of the invites - that would have resulted in his humiliation.
When he backed her up in getting Sunidhi to share the chores - that was in his best interest. Sunidhi and Pratibha take care of the house - they share the chores, his life can continue on smoothly - that doesn't really take anything away from the status quo.
So basically he's super selfish. He only backs her up when it doesn't disrupt anything for him or can make his life easier.
