| Drama queen: Karishma Randeva | On screen, Karishma Randeva has transformed into a beautiful princess in her recently renamed serial – Princess Dollie Aur Uska Magic Bag (formerly called Hello Dollie). But off-screen, the actress seems to have become some sort of diva.
Sources close to the unit have been restless with the tantrums thrown by the young actress.
"She starts complaining about every little thing, from the AC to the make up room. Apart from that, there have been times when she has come to the sets very late and not even rehearsed her lines well."
The source adds that Randeva refused to work in the makeup room she was given and asked for a separate one. When contacted, a shocked Randeva said, "I can't believe someone from my unit is saying these things about me. This is highly unprofessional." I used to shoot in an oven
Fuming over the information leaked to the press, she goes on to clarify her alleged tantrum fits. "When I joined the show, I was working non-stop for 18-20 hours.
Things were so bad that I had serious skin and hair problems. Since the production didn't have a bank of the episodes, they would require me to shoot for long hours," she said.
However, Randeva has now made it clear that she will not shoot for more than 14 hours at a stretch. "I have put my foot down this time around. I am not willing to shoot for more than 14 hours, and I think that's not an unfair demand."
Reacting to the charges about her being non-cooperative, she says, "I used to shoot in an oven. It used to be so hot, that someone would have to constantly keep wiping the sweat off my brow. Imagine the amount of time being wasted on that.
Besides that, I was not the only one who had issues with the heat. Everyone was asking for an AC." I'm not a social person
On the topic of her coming late on to the sets, she says, "If I arrived late on the sets, how could they shoot so much of my footage daily? If at all I have been late, I have made it a point to inform them well in advance."
The actress points out that she has very often received the dialogues too late in the day. "They would just get the lines and want me to shoot. I told them I cannot do this without rehearsing for five minutes."
The actress has five more months to go before her contract with the show ends. "I have been getting many offers, not only from television but also films. I'm refusing those because I am committed to this show. But if the unit has problems with me and my behaviour, then maybe I am better off someplace else."
But does she think she is a superstar and decides to shut herself up from other unit members? "I agree I'm not a social person. I prefer to read a book or be by myself rather than nosing around other people's business. If that's taken as being uptight then I can't help it."
How does she feel about the show being revamped into a hardcore kiddie show? "It's not my decision, that's the channel's decision. I can't do anything about them renaming the show. My job is to do my best as Dollie and go home." |
She is reserved by nature
Senior actress, Suhasini Mulay who plays her dadi on the show throws some light on Karishma.
"She comes from an Army school background, and is reserved by nature. Others could read this as being arrogant, but she has been sweet to me whenever I have interacted with her."
However, she agrees that working in a daily does take a toll on everyone.
"I think there are two sides to this coin. Karishma may think that the production people should step in her shoes and feel how it is like to shoot for long hours. But she should also appreciate the amount of hardwork put in by the unit guys."
She adds, "Yes, we did get a very bad make up room in the first place. It was impossible to work there, but now we have been given a better place." Tiffs keep happening
Another actor under anonymity said, "This is the case with every daily. It's not just with this show. The production guys are under huge stress and the actors want to be treated with more respect. So such tiffs keep happening.
There is no use complaining about it, the door is always open, and one can happily walk out." Guess one will have to wait and watch if this princess chooses to open that door and stage an exit. Karishma was also seen as... 1. Sonu in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki (Star Plus) 2. Rano in Tumhari Disha (Zee) 3. Sakshi in Kkusum (Sony) 4. Tia in Kyon Hota Hai Pyar (Star Plus) | |
