Dietary management for Tonsillitis - Basil Wellnes

Tonsils are lymph nodes in the back of the mouth and top of the throat. They normally help to filter out bacteria and other germs to prevent infection in the body.
Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils most commonly caused by viral or bacterial infection. While no treatment has been found to shorten the duration of viral tonsillitis, bacterial causes may be treatable with antibiotics. Tonsillitis is also known as pharyngotonsillitis or tonsillopharyngitis.

Tonsillitis is very common, especially in children.

Causes
  • Common cold viruses
  • Bacterial infection
  • Repeated throat infections.
  • Excessive use of spices, condiments, acrid, pungent and astringent food items.
  • Constant dry, hawking, dog-like cough.
  • Forcible and constant use of voice - often at a high pitch.
  • Chronic Congestion, blockage of nose, when nose is blocked by viscid and tenacious mucus.
  • Excessive eating of toffees, sweets, tamarind, tartaric acid, chewing gum, etc.

Symptoms
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Ear pain
  • Fever, chills
  • Headache
  • Sore throat - lasts longer than 48 hours and may be severe
  • Tenderness of the jaw and throat
  • Voice changes, loss of voice
  • white or yellow patches on the tonsils
  • cough
  • sore eyes
  • body aches
  • nasal congestions

Dietary management:
  • Drink plenty of fluids, such has fruit and vegetable juices, soups.
  • If there is a trouble swallowing regular food, one can eat smooth foods, such as gelatin.
  • Hydrate yourself.
  • Avoid Acidic Drinks, Spicy Food and Soar Substances - Don't drink acid drinks and try to avoid spicy food as it may irritate your throat. Sour substances like curds, buttermilk, and fried foods should also be avoided.
  • Avoid cigarette smoke and other irritants.
  • Avoid cold and aerated drinks, spicy food, curds, buttermilk, fried food, ice-cream, hard and crunchy food articles, strong coffee, tea and alcohol.

Preventive measures:
  • Wash your hands frequently to prevent the spread of the virus or bacteria that cause tonsillitis.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with people with streptococcal sore throat.
  • Give plenty of rest to your throat

Hey thanks for d infos dear.

But is that true dat tonsils detects the food and kills the bacteria only till 12-14yrs of age after dat it tonsils become a vestigeal organ,and if its infection is causing to much probs it can be removed by surgery.
