Urticaria is a common in women than men. It can occur at any age of life. Urticaria can appear on & off. The rash of Urticaria occurs suddenly and then resolves so rapidly without leaving any trace behind. Urticaria cannot remain more than 24 hours, it resolves automatically without medicines. If Urticaria remains more than 6 weeks, called as chronic tendency of urticaria and needs proper homeopathic treatment.
How is urticaria developed?
In non sensitive skin or person when allergen comes with contact they consider them harmless and don't react. But in sensitive person when allergen comes to contact his immune power considers them foreign and exaggeratedly activates fighting cells called white blood cells and mast cells as antibodies. Mast cells release granules called as histamine which has the property of causing vasodilation, swelling, itching, pain and rash and urticaria develops.
Allergens
Man with hypersensitive skin
Exaggerated activation of immune system and formation of antibodies against them
Activation of mast cells in the skin
Release of histamine
Histamine has quality to produce swelling rash and itching
Causes:
The exact cause of urticaria is difficult to say, in almost half of the cases the cause remain idiopathic.
Urticaria may be Allergic or non allergic but following are some allergens which may cause urticaria
Food allergens like milk, cheese, wheat, tomatoes, cucumber, sour food, certain daal, shellfish, chicken, cheese, butter, eggs, artificial flavored food etc.
stress
Excessive perspiration
Certain Alcohol like wine or beer, dyes, yeast
Environmental factors like pollen, house dust, fungi, extreme cold, pressure or heat
Drugs like certain antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs and steroids. Hormonal preparations, contraceptives, vaccinations etc.
Bites of bedbugs, wasps, bees, mosquitoes, flies and certain kinds of caterpillars may produce the disease.
Certain bacterial, fungal or viral infections and contact with pets, birds may trigger urticaria
Use of personal products like deodorant, soap, talcum powder, perfume, cosmetic, shampoo etc.
Diseases like hypothyroidism, SLE, leukemia etc.
Symptoms:
Sudden skin eruptions with swelling, burning, intense itching and stinging
Rubbing and scratching usually aggravate the condition.
Shape and size is variable-irregular ,round or vertical line, multiple or single
Restlessness and irritability due to intense itching.
The eruption may fade in a few minutes or an hour in one place, but may appear in another.
Ongioedema: In urticaria a deeper swelling is accompanied in the skin called angioedema. The swelling may be seen on the hand, feet, lips and eyes.
Complications:
Difficulty in breathing
Recurrence
Diagnosis:
Physical examination
Blood tests- help to find out any allergic reactions.
Allergy tests- help to find out any allergen which triggers the urticaria
Prevention:
Avoid known triggers for urticaria like certain food, medications, stress, tight clothing, extreme temperature etc.
Maintain a diary which tract all daily activities, when and where urticaria occurs and what food cause it to know the exact triggering factor.
Role of homeopathy:
Urticaria is a very common and upsetting disease because of recurrence. Homeopathy is very effective in treating all types of urticaria.
Normally our body is gifted with natural healing mechanism called as immune power. In urticaria immune power gets disturbed and can show exaggerated reaction to allergen .it activates the antibodies and produce histamines to cause rash and itching.
Homeopathic constitutional dose strengthens the weakened immunity of the patient so that the body gains the capacity to overthrow the disease on its own. It controls the exaggerated reaction of immune power to allergens .Thus ultimately decreases the activation of mast cells and the production of histamines. Thus gradually all symptoms of urticaria subside. Homeopathic medicines can also reduce the sensitivity of body to particular allergens by improving immunity. Thus it helps person to live very comfortably without any urticarial rash. Homeopathic medicines can reduce the heredity effect which is known to cause or aggravate urticaria.
Homeopathic medicines have a chief action on the mind. Stress is a main cause of urticaria. The stressful environment in ones life cannot be reduced; however its effects on the body and mind can be dealt with by homeopathy.
Many underline diseases like SLE, leukemia, thyroid problem scan be resolve with homeopathy which produces the urticaria.
