The fitness expert says "A firm and toned tummy comes not only with ab exercises but also with a healthy diet. Exercises like plank, reverse crunches, pike, side plank, bicycle, leg raises, hip raises and Pilates target the abdominal muscle. The exercises should be slow and controlled -- you should feel the ab muscle working by the eighth or tenth rep. Keep your muscles contracted at all times and breathe out while crunching. Cardio exercises on the treadmill, elliptical and stepper are also recommended. A group class of boxing, dancing or martial arts works on the core. Swimming and yoga too help tone the abdominal muscles."
