Fairy has some wishes too

Wed, Feb 6 12:45 AM

It's been exactly a week since Pari Hoon Main has gone on air and Rashami Desai plays a double role in the soap - of a girl-next-door and the other of a superstar. The actress, who's had a stint in Bhojpuri cinema was noticed by BR Films after Raavan in which she played Mandodari.

Tube fantasy Desai claims that she has been offered many saas-bahu sagas but opted for this show because "playing a pari is much more exciting!" She has changed her name from Divya Desai to Rashami Desai. And she has lost four kilos.

"I was a little on the plump side so I was asked to get into shape," she says. Desai is determined to maintain a strictly professional relationship with all her co-stars since she's new to the industry.

She admits that Mohit Mullick and Karan Mehra are very friendly. But she does not want to be a part of any gossip at the beginning of her career.

Like most other telly actresses, Desai has her sights trained on Hindi films as well.

Pari wears sari worth Rs 2.5 lakhs

Rashmi Desai, lead of Pari Hoon Main, shot for a sequence for the show wearing a saree worth Rs 2.5 lakhs we have learnt.

About the sequence, she says, "It is a party sequence where Niki is going to be Pari for the first time. The sequence was like this I was not ready to come to the party but Karan manages to convince me so finally I decided to go there. It is like a complete makeover for me. My earlier look was very simple. Now I will play Pari who is a superstar so I have to change my attitude and everything.

I felt very nice when I saw myself in the new look. I took 45 minutes to wrap the saree, two hours for make up, half an hour for hairstyle and 15 minutes to wear diamond jewellery. But I am completely opposite to this in real life as I like to be simple and be at home most of the times. I am very family girl and do not like to show off."

We also shot an item song which features Irvin who is a brilliant dancer. She performed on Aaj Ki Raat from Don. We shot for 8 continuous days for his sequence."

The party sequence will be on air next week.

Nikki feels like Pari in a saree worth Rs.2.5 lakhs

Nikki AKA Rashami feels like a 'Pari' in a saree worth Rs 2.5 lakhs

Star Plus' show 'Pari Hoon Main' is all about a simple girl feeling special and we are sure, our female fans would too be flattered if they were draped in a saree worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

Nikki AKA Rashami was given a white net designer saree for the special episode which will have the cast of the serial dance to the track "Aaj ki raat hoona hai kya" from the SRK blockbuster 'Don'.

BR Films, the Producers of the show, wanted to make sure that the event is truly lavish so, it was Nikki, who turned out lucky with getting to wear the exorbitant costume and if that was not enough, the generous producers coupled it with diamond dangler.

So watch the special show and do drop a line if you really thought that saree was worth the bucks.

Divya Desai changes name to Rashmi

Looks like that the numerology fixation is fast catching up with the Bhojpuri film industry. The latest is that the leading lady of BR Films'latest television soap, Pari Hoon Main, was asked to change her name from Divya Desai to Rashmi Desai by the production house before she reported to the sets.

The story goes that Divya, who has featured in Bhojpuri films in the past, readily obliged to BR Films' demand.

Rashmi, when contacted, admits, "Yes, I have changed my name from Divya to Rashmi because of numerology. I have been doing Bhojpuri films for more than four years. But, when I started Pari Hoon Main, I was told that my original name Divya is not favourable as per the rules of numerology. My mother, who is also an ardent believer of this science, consulted a famous numerologist immediately. I was told that if I change my name to Rashmi immediately, it will spell success for me."

Rashmi plays a double role in Pari Hoon Main, which revolves around two look-alikes, Nikki and Pari, and how their uncanny resemblance with each other lands them in trouble all the time.

Divya has been one of the most successful Bhojpuri film actress, with several hit films in her side.

Mohit Malik is now playing the role of a hero in Pari Hoon Main

Mohit Malik, who was last seen in Durgesh Nadini, is now playing the role of a hero in Pari Hoon Main. Interestingly, his role is quite similar to Bollywood's latest heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor's real life story.

"I am playing role of Rajveer Kapoor who becomes a superstar after his first film. He is very ambitious, down to earth and a truly professional actor. On the other hand he is emotional too. The second film he is doing has father Roshan Kapoor as producer," reveals Mohit about his role.

Admitting that the role is quite similar to that of Ranbir Kapoor, he explains, "You can say that there are some similarities. He is one film old, his father is a producer and he is also very down to earth. He had proved himself but Rajvansh has some imaginary characteristics as well."

Talking about what made him take up this offer, he says, "It is a B.R Chopra production and further my character is very different from what I have played in the past though the concentration of the story is the lead girls' double role. However, today all the serials are women oriented and you hardly get to see male oriented roles. I thought this character has good shades so why waste such an opportunity."

What kept you busy post Durgesh Nandini? "I had a break of four months during which I learnt dancing for two months. I was waiting for good offers and then I accepted this one and I am very happy. I believe in doing one show at one time," says the actor.

Pari Hoon Main comes on air from Monday-Thursday at 9 pm on Star One. It is B.R Production's second daily soap after Virasaat. Karan Mehra and Rashmi Desai are the leads.

I wanted to do something better than bhojpuri: Rashmi Desai

Nikki or Pari but Rashmi is really very much into both the characters. And she loves it. We thought to disturb her a little bit from her busy schedule. Here is an excerpt.

1. The show is only four days old, how are you feeling?
A: Right now I have mixed feelings. I am feeling really excited than nervous. I am expecting everything to turn out positive. But at the same time I am scared too.

2. Who do you like the most, Nikki or Pari?
A: I like Nikki. Nikki can do anything and she is very bubbly. But Pari has certain limitations as she is a star. I like Nikki for her simple and innocent living.

3. Isn't it difficult to switch on and off between the two characters?
A: It is really very difficult to do especially when both are to be played on the same day.

4. How you got the opportunity to work with B.R.Films?
A: I have done couple of bhojpuri films. But I wanted to do something better than bhojpuri so I thought to give Indian Television a try. Then one day I got a call from B.R.Films for the auditions, there I gave my best. They were happy with my auditions and I became Pari and Nikki.

5. So are you enjoying?
A: Of Course I am enjoying hell a lot. I love Nikki and Pari.

6. Have you done any serial before?
A: Yes I did 'Ravan' before. I played Ravan's wife there. I wanted to see how Indian Television works.

7. How is Rashmi in real life?
A: Rashmi is 70% Nikki and 30% Pari. I am really chulbuli and naughty by nature.

8. Is this serial going to follow story of great films like 'seeta aur geeta' and 'chaalbaaz'?
A: No-no it's very much different from the two. Unlike the two films they are not duplicates but look-alikes. And here our main focus is to motivate those people who are like Nikki. We want them to tell that whatever you dream can become true.

9. Were you always interested in acting?
A: Actually I never thought of acting. I always thought of becoming doctor or air-hostess. And let me tell you the story of Nikki is somewhat like my life. Everything fell into my lap without expectations.

It all started when I was learning classical dance. My guru told me about a bhojpuri film. I went there and met the people. That is how I got the opportunity.

10. Whom you get along very well on the sets?
A: Apart from my mom and bhabhi I get along well with Upasna, who is my mami on-screen. On-screen she hits me but as soon the camera is shut she really take care of me just like my mom.

11. What are your future plans?
A: As of now I want to concentrate on Pari Hoon Main only. Mat be after this serial I will try in films.

12. What you do in free time?
A: I like to listen music, go out with my friends and family, shopping etc. but now its very rare I get free time.

13. One reason why should people watch this serial?
A: Its not that they should watch, but if they want they should. We all have done lot of hard work and we want to make sure that audience is getting entertained in half an hour.

Dance, dance

How long can television stay away from item numbers? Recently, the Star One show Pari Hoon Main had protagonist Pari (Rashami Desai) gyrating to a Don number. The excuse was a sequence that showed the music launch of a Hindi film. After the shot was over, Desai was flooded with compliments from the entire cast and crew. The most forthcoming was the show's leading man, Mohit Malik, who was completely bowled over by the girl's moves. Now Desai is taking dancing very seriously.
