You guys might not know me because even though I watched and loved Gulaal a LOT when it was on air ... time constraints made sure I was never active here . But now I am re-watching all the old stuff so couldn't help but share this with you guys.

That scene where he has all the unsent letter's spread out on his bed ... and he's going through them like a madman ... thinking re-reading his own questions would somehow lead him to the answer.

"Kabhi kabhi toh lagta ke jaake tujhse poochti hi hoon. Phir sab theek hojayega .Jo tu kahegi wohi sach hoga, aur baaki sab jhoot"

^ Holy mother of Oreos. SUCH faith in her he used to have. Hence all the more torment knowing (what Kesar thinks he knows) she has something going on with Vasanth's murderer.

This scene is kind of a corollary to the andhera scene of little Kesuda where he chants Gulaal ... Gulaal ... Gulaal to drive away his fears because she is the one he trusts the most in the world. His lighthouse. His lifeline. His faith. And when that faith comes in question (her supposed favouring of Dushyant) the poor guy starts to question his life. WHAT a tortured soul. 🥺

Kesar is SUCH a well-written character ... 👏

Agreed 200%! Kesar was such a well written and unbelievably very human character.
Everyone could relate to his pain and feel their eyes tear up for all the turmoil he dealt with.

Btw, Beautiful post!
Loved that scene <3 TFS!

Thank you :)

And yes ... there was SO much growth in Kesar's character from Day one until Episode 212 and SOOO many shades to him. I don't think anyone can write enough to do justice to such a nice character. And not just Neil ... Both Manasi and Neil were instrumental in showing Kesar the way he was. Neil obviously because of how well he played it .. and Manasi because if she hadn't played Gulaal so well, I don't think Kesar would have turned out this great . Because all of Kesar's highs and lows centered around Gulaal ... it was a symbiotic thing.

Yes! Very true. Both Neil and Mansi gave life to these characters. Kesar wouldn't have been what he is if not for Gulaal's presense in his life and vice versa for Gulaal. Their lives were interwoven so beautifully and strongly tied together. The creators definitely planned this story well ahead therefore it did not ever fall like other tv shows.

The thing is agar Gulaal naho hoti toh Kesar na hota aur agar Kesar na hota toh Gulaal nahi hoti. Their relationship is like two bodies but one mind and heart.

I knoww right ? In all 'romantic louuu couple' stories, the characters are interdependent but in Gulaal it was SO much beyond mere correlation. I haven't seen two characters so intricately interwoven before !

And I really wanted to see a little more of Gulaal after Gulaaal FINALLY gave into Kesar's feelings for her ... but sadly show had to end cuz .. guess what ... the Mass's taste runs towards shows high on masala and low on quality -____- . Gulal's low TRP's were not cuz Gulaal failed as a show , it was because people failed to appreciate a true GEM !

I have only seen a few shows which had such depth in characterization and sadly all these shows suffer low trps and got axed.

Oh my god I literally bawled like a baby when I saw the last episode! Gulaal's confession was so beautiful and they finally came to a full circle in the end with Kesar beating the dhol/drums and Gulaal dancing around him like she used to in the beginning. I SO badly wanted to see more, Im sure it would have been great if they had continued with their married life track but this time a happy one.

Agreed! Gulaal's trps wasn't the shows fault... People were high on ekta maiya ka dramebaazi back then and silly youth shows.
Gulaal had drama but it also had quality, it wasn't mindless drama but sadly audience loves mindless drama more so than meaningful ones.

So true about the layers . Young carefree Gulaal, older wiser and weighed down by relations and responsibilties that come with it Gulaal ... Young adorable Kesaar, older volatile and vulnerable Kesar , obsessed Kesaar, resigned to fate Kesar ... I could go on and on Piu !

The letters .. I love how they themselves have so much character ... and keep coming back every now and then ... symbolic of all Kesar had wanted to say to Gulaal all these years ... his fears , his hopes, his love ... LOVED this letter scene

Yeah !!! Tell me about it .. Another such show was Rishta.com . No typical HAWT louuu scene , no steamy 'passshooonate' scenes , no masala , no in-your-face louuu track either .. but it was SO amazing. Gulaar and R.com are two shows I would always go back and watch ... time and again. And because it got wrapped up a little too soon , I will always wonder .. ke kya aur dikha sakte thei ? Kya aur ho sakta tha ?

And the last episode ... Dont get me started woman ! The way Gulal said

"Mat jaa na Kesar ... tere bina ab jeenay ki aadat nahin rahi"

And Kesar just looked on straight ahead ... not saying a single word ... and the tears keps rolling down his face ... tears he was not aware of because he was just hit so hard with happiness it punched him straight in the hypothetical guts ... and it was a while before it could finally sink in and he finally smiled ... not out of hope for a happier tomorrow but out of joy for FINALLY attaining the happiness he has been seeking all long.

Waise how are you watching the old episodes ? Star utsav ?
