Statuatory warning: I am going to go on a long rant.
I have been watching this show from the begining and following this forum, I have seen some posts here and in hotstar, which say this show is a bad influence cause it shows attrocities on women. But sorry to break your bubble, these attrocities do really exists in interiors of India, and keeping mum about them will promote them. This show has brought it on main screen its not the first, I remember a show called phir subah hogi, Udaan started with similar plots, but keeping aside all these, this show has some deep layered characters.
Rangeela, the Ghulaam, a man who is both submissive and headstrong. His character is very well designed I will say, he is shown as a spineless blind follower, exactly how a slave should be. He is also a case of psychological study, he shows signs of Stockholm syndrome, a psychological condition where a prisoner bonds with his/her captor in fear of losing complete control. Similarly Rangeela loves the Haveli as though his home, loves Veer as his god, holds on to him cuz he is the closest to family he has ever known. But there is another facet of his character, the headstrong goood guy, someone who has knowledge of right and wrong but that Rangeela is suppressed behind the Ghulam
Veer, I can go on and on about his complex nature and by the way someone pls give Vikas an oscar for the portrayal. He is rude, dominating and cruel. There is always a subdued anger about him, he is menacing and he is irritating. The way he treats everyone makes you wish you could kill him. But there is also an impulsive Veer who orders Rangeela to be hanged to show his power. He immediately regrets it and wants to call it off. He is also naive and can be manipulated easily, for example Jageer convinces him to kill Rangeela. He also unknown to himself cares for Rangeela, This shown when Veer makes Rangeela promise not to kill himself ever, that too in a condition where Veer would have killed any other person. Veer in my opinion is capabe of love, but has never been taught what it is.
And how can I forget Manmeet. The drug addict brother. And a character who comes across strikingly in the mayhem. Married to the battered and bruised and mumed Rashmi. Rashmi a girl who was kidnapped, saw her lover getting killed, got her tongue burned and was married off to a drug addict. But this drug addict turns out to be one of the best men of Berehempur. In a place where women are objects, he treats her like human. Their love story is something I want to see. Manmeet has done what a companion should do, from protecting her, to inspiring her to speak to consoling her. The way they are becoming each others strength is delightful. She tries to get rid of hsi drugs and tries to make her speak, a partnership based on understanding and mutual respect.
Now let me come to the downside, and it is the Shivani track. I am sorry but she irritates me. Yes she has done well, so far in saving herself from Veer. But when Rangeela made way for her escape why did she comeback. That was the most illogical and impractical thing. I am sorry but this ruined the character. Pls stop her Pati Parmeshwar ranting.
At this point this show has two good fortes, one is the RanVeer bonding and another is Manmeet Rashmi track. Pls CV's if you bring a change of heart in Veer, please dont show it is due to Shivani, because the only person who has the right and the ability to change, destroe or kill Veer is Rangeela. This show can have many good endings, first Veer bieng killed by Rangeela and Rangeela setting up an empowered berehempur, or Shivani and Rangeela going off together to start a new life and Veer becoming the tragic hero and letting go of them to redeem himself. Or Both Veer and Rangeela, dying or going away to start a new life while Manmeet starts the free empowered and developed Berehempur. Only one request to CV's Pls dont turn this into a typical love triangle and pls bring some realism in Shivani's character.
