*Spoiler Alert*

Ghulaam, as a show uses in-your-face regression to display the cruelty women face in B'pur. The show, unlike a Barjatya movie or a Gul daily soap, doesn't believe in promoting sexism and misogyny under heavy layers of designer clothes, posh bungalows, richie rich hunks and blinding glamour- it is what it is (excuse my "Sherlock" reference πŸ˜†).

Ghulaam is rustic, blatant and doesn't hide behind anything remotely glamourous. It may drag at times but it makes up for it too. And while the show shows the men as utterly cruel beasts, let's talk about the men of the ruling house in B'pur- the Chaudhary household.

Yes, they are blatantly regressive. Yes, they commit acts of cowardice and cruelty. But, but, but...can I write them all off as irredeemable? I think not. 😊

Ruthless as they may be, especially with their "ladki uthaao, byaah karao" policy (not even taking into consideration that she may be carrying a life-threatening STD and can very well infect everyone around her πŸ˜†), but they can't be termed as "heartless".

They show compassion, in bits and pieces, every now and then.

They mostly act cruel when they witness defiance or rule-breaking.

Take the last two episodes, for example. Manmeet surprises me almost every time. πŸ˜† The way he stands up for his wife is actually commendable! πŸ‘

He actually punished his mother, believing that she caused his wife's injury. He laughed when his mother burnt her hand because his wife suffered the same.

Jageer- no comments. This dude confuses me more than Mr Colouurful. πŸ₯±

Bheeshm Pratap- he actually cares for his wife. Yes, he may have gotten angry at her trying to be the queen bee for a day, but then, that was expected. He cares about her well-being and actually listens to her advice or suggestions.

Veer- THE most colourful character of the show. πŸ˜† Yeh banda mere pale nahin padta. πŸ˜›
But, look at the way he treats Shivani- apart from the rule-breaking parts (again). He doesn't believe in all that astrological shit but he adheres to it all the same, just because he loves his mother. He never tried to force himself on Shivani, instead is using stupid, child-like tricks to get her to sleep with him! 🀣

Even in his anger, he wouldn't stop his "baby dawwl" jaap! πŸ˜†

The men in the household are anything but lusty, depraved beings! They don't participate in marital rape, nor torture their wives if they are unable to perform. If nothing, this may well serve as a redeeming factor (unless ST tries to repeat a "Madhubala" here and makes me eat my words- which I DON'T want).

fantastic post dear, yeah i too was thinking the same. these beastly creatures have still that heart inside, they r not portrayed as that much of a beast. i saw veer who gives importance to his mother's words, the head Chaudhury gives importance to his mother, veer never forces himself on his wife, manmeet stands for his wife, jagjeer punishes rangeele but never say anything to maldawali for crossing limits.

And that's what I like about the show.. Its rusty dusty appearance πŸ˜†
I like the set, the attires and the looks of characters..

Lol they don't care about SDTs but they do care about the virginity of a girl..
Regarding manmeet taking rashmi's side, I think he doesn't care about his wife but he wants to humiliate gulguli or do something which irks her.. πŸ˜† I still remember the scene where gulguli just barged into their room and asked Rashmi to get up whereas manmeet was adamant and didn't let her go.. Bechari Rashmi ka sandwich bna dia tha..
Jageer - haha.. He is really weird.. He doesn't care about anyone.. His acts of saving shivani or taking her side is not something we can call humane.. I think he does things to belittle sarkar and veer.. If he was powerful enough to fight in an akhara then he would have been similar to veer in terms of behaviour.. I think so..
Bheema Singh - hmmm.. I thought he would be more cruel than veer. But its a disappointment! Huh!
Veer - hahahha. I love him.. For whatever he does.. I totally enjoy his scenes.. He doesn't want to force himself on shivani because shivani had admitted that she is weaker and he can easily win over her.. This thing had perhaps pinched him a little.. Now he wants shivani to come to him on her own.. Though he is doing this silly thing πŸ˜† which is definitely not his style but that's better than forcing himself on a weaker person.. Apne se barabari wale se jeet k dikhae πŸ˜†
I hope my prediction about veer is true as I don't want a rape scene.. I have no idea why u referring the show madhubala.. But I don't want such scenes..

And yes I seriously have no idea if these characters are irredeemable or not but the place and the show is not that beraham as I had thought ...

Hey nice thread πŸ‘

My take on these ruthless men..😳

Sarkar.. I say even though he don't give respect and freedom to the women in his house, he do care about them. He looked real worried when shivu jumped and did he spare raghav when Reshmi begged. I think he also said something like when women cries he should reconsider! So yea there is some hope for him.

MR "Dimaagwala" Jaagir.. so far nothing about him is shown worthy. It's obvious he is super jealous of veer and rangeela for more obvious reasons... so let's move on..

Manmeet.. he might saved the day so far for Shivu and Reshmi but he acts thus only cos of maldawali. She instigated everything he has done so far. She wants him to rebel her "shashumaa".. and he carries it out. Not to forget he also listen to dimaagwala and drowned rangeela once. So yea he is easily manipulated which is not a good sign..

Veera.. Hehe where do I start .. totally smitten by this monster.. that sexy bad guy vibe(Damon and Chris grey wala feel). Ok besides that like you guys mentioned he does love his mom, has this soft corner for his fav ghulaam and his baby doll. Even though he tortures and shows his anger/superiority towards his ghulaam, it's obvi that he cares for him. May be he sees him as his laptop dog something but he truely cares for him. We saw that several times now. And the way he calls his baby doll.. I am sure when he falls in love (which eventually he will) it will be very interesting to watch him battle between his ego and pheelings.

Now this is just a theory. I have this thought from the start of the series that our Rangeele also belong to this kandhaan. At first I thought he was Sarkar's illegitimate son but now that his mom appeared supposedly with a gun, I think she might be related to Sarkar. Few episodes back gulguli said something about girl child born in the family are thrown away or killed.(don't remember exactly wat she said) may be rangeela's mom is Sarkar sis or may be someone who rejected Sarkar. Don't know. But it will be interesting if rangeela belonged to this pack of beasts.

I only noteworthy thing about the guys in thakur family is they are not lusty.. I have mentioned it in a post long time back..
Sarkar dont enjoy his sons tourturing their wifes and tells them to behave which is surprising since he himself used to beat him wife and surprising havent beaten her in 10 years😲.. Gulguli ki kuch harkar dehkar mann karta hai ki kaash sarkar ne 2 4 laga dete toh acha hota..

Veer seems to genuinely started having feelings for his baby doll.. He seems to adore his child woman of a wife.. I like the way vikas is playing veer and eventhough i started watching the show for param and niti nowadays i am liking vikas's more than rangeela.. Missed him in the last 2 episode.

Jagir se mujhe kya kya umeede thi aur woh kya nikla.. I think he is the one who is trying to kidnap shivani in the precap.. Agar veer ko pata chala toh uski tai tai fish ho jayega..

Manmeet seems to get manipulated quite easily.. Rashmi needs to be clever and use it to her advantage.. First time when he laughed at gulguli he didnt do that coz of maldawali.. He is weird and unpredictable... I think he restored to drgs and alcohole because he couldnt handle whatever is happening in berahmpur.. Unlike jagir he dont seem to have any health issue and we dont know how he was before maldawali made him a drug addict..

Rangeela's character needs an uplift asap.. Except for param's acting there is nothing in rangeela that interests me..
Param and niti looks like 2 cute little kids. Both are damn cute together

Excellent post ... couldn't agree more ..and your analysis of analysis of the men makes me think there is some hope..
They are raw n rooted in the old school chauvnistic behaviour that is prevalent in a more sugar coated manner in current society ...
Today sarkar pulled manmeet away from rashmi and yet in the same breath threatened his wife with violence for standing in for him in his absence. But the rage on Gulgullis face was telling.

Hopefully she leads the change in the house at some point.
