I'm seriously sick and tired of the way Maldawali's character is being portrayed! 😑

I'm not talking about her complexities or layers, I'm talking about the way she's been represented. Ok, we get it, she's a Bengali woman from West Bengal. Have you ever done any research on Bengali women? My guess is NO!

You simply follow Bollywood's lazy rule of either putting them in as comic relief or in this case, like many, fetishizing the woman!

I see what you did there by choosing an actress like Ridhee for the role- big eyes, long, wavy hair, voluptuous frame etc etc. Tell you what, there are people like me who exist who don't possess any of those features which are so frustratingly attributed to Bengali women!

Even if I choose to overlook those tropes, what annoys me most is her constant input of Bengali words to EMPHASIZE the fact that she's a Bong!

That is NOT how "lojja" is pronounced! "Eshe naa" is NOT correct grammar!

Either make her speak Bengali full time or make her speak Hindi which she clearly can do spontaneously.

Nothing against the actress, though. I just had to rant against the director and scriptwriter!

Hello, its good to see another Bangali here like me, i m from Bangladesh.haan neither Maaldawali's clothing, nor her pronounciation resembles bong ppl, it sounds like only she is teasing or something , trying to add the entertainment factor.
I feel it is a trend started from the movie ",Devdas".

No use of appealing anything to the makersπŸ˜†
She will continue to speak in her broken accent for the time beingπŸ˜›
And later as the story will progress she will forget the little bengali she knowsπŸ˜‰

Well that's nothing new coz whenever some non Bengali actors plays a Bong character this is how they pronounce
But today her Bengali was horrible compared to other days
What I don't understand is what's the need of using Bengali words?? Just to show that she is a Bong .. We already know that πŸ₯±

Jab makers ne indian armed forces ko nahi choda toh begalis kya cheez hai..
Hindi serials and cinemas always represent wrong picture of states which dont belong to the north.. Its nothing new.. Bengalis, malayalis, tamilian all are laughing stocks.. The biggest irritaing thing is everyone in south speaks tamil.. I am from kerala and i understand hindi way better than tamil..

@SimpleAnna Hello dear! πŸ€—

I'm from Calcutta and I do know a fair few people from Bangladesh! πŸ˜ƒ

Honestly speaking, the trend has been there even before Devdas came into the picture. I can still overlook Devdas's way of glamorizing Bengali women as the setting itself was Bengali. This is a different case altogether! πŸ˜•

@RainbowPearls I sincerely hope she forgets...kaano pe torture toh nahin hoga apne hi maatri bhaasha ki dhajjiya udte sune huye. πŸ˜†

@A-night-in-June Exactly my point! We have been explicitly informed in the 1st episode itself that she's a BONG! Thanks but no thanks for the emphasizing! 😑

@Priya W.O.R.D to that! Right from Sardars to Tamilians to Biharis, Bollywood has a thing for making a mockery out of different races instead of representing them as to how they are.

Also, Maldawali is not intended for just comic relief (she's rarely funny), look at the way she's sexualised. 😳

While the other two bahus are covered up almost entirely, Maldawali is being portrayed more or less as a sex symbol. Not that I have a problem with it, I hate the way it is represented.

@lilith i totally agree with you on her dressing.. It would have been fine if the thakurs were open minded people.. Even modern girls dont expose that much while wearing a saree..
How come gulguli allow her DIL to come in front of other male.members like that?

valid point... I mssed the initial episodes and only lately realized after the heavily enunciated bengali that she is a bong.

Yeah her belly baring dressing in the so called traditional haveli is a puzzle.

finally smone talked abt maldawali

as i m not bengali person, i dont have that much knowledge at her bengali things.

bt this character is really irritating. she looks unreal, not natural. her character is completely turned into lusty, mean, selfish and wanna be malkin type lady.

cvs need to improve her character.
