'I'm not Tanushree Dutta'
Tanushree Kaushal aka Menaka of 'Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan' (Zee) has more than one reason to smile. After her recent intermittent roles on TV (between commercials and a South Indian film), she has found a stable footing with this serial. Right now, Tanushree is enjoying the recognition she has received for her negative role in the serial.
She says, "I agree that the storywriter and director conceive and execute the show. But it is the actor's performance that matters the most."
She adds, "I have never used loud make-up for my role unlike most other vamps. I let my expressions do the talking. Hence, I feel that a lot depends on how you portray the character. Filmmaker Ketan Mehta once had said that the success of a character largely depends on how the actor fits into the role."
Not many know that Tanushree also dabbles in fashion designing and designs clothes for a boutique in Vancouver, Canada. She nevertheless adds, "But acting runs in my blood."
Her father Kaushal Bharti has written films including 'Gambler' and 'Tere Mere Sapne'. He has also written the dialogues for 'Aadmi' and 'Ram Aur Shyam'. "Actor Puneet Issar is my maternal uncle. My brother is a writer-actor. So acting comes naturally to me," she adds.
"I would like to play a role like that of Mother India or Tulsi's in 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi'. Tulsi's character is the most challenging role in contemporary TV", she says.
And what's her ultimate goal? "An actor is never satisfied. I am hungry for more performance-oriented roles. I have a long way to go…," she says.
'I am not Tanushree Dutta', that's also what Tanushree ends up saying most of the time. She says, "I guess people jumble our numbers and call me up thinking I am Tanushree Dutta.
I get at least one call each day that is actually meant for the other Tanushree." The TV actor says that it's not just fans who make this mistake.
Apparently, even industry people happen to mistake one for the other. She laughs, "I get calls for shows and performances. I guess Tanushree Dutta must be getting calls for serials!" She continues, "I get calls at odd hours. Earlier, I used to patiently convince the caller that I am not Tanushree Dutta, but now I am losing my patience."
