All set to make a comeback |
Friday, April 13, 2007 12:51:29 IST |
Dheeraj Kumar, whose serial Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan has emerged as the No 1 serial on Zee TV, is all smiles as he tells JYOTHI VENKATESH about his comeback as an actor with his new serial Hamari Bahu Tulsi. Why did you opt for the title Hamari Bahu Tulsi? Is it an attempt on your part to cash in on the popularity of the serial Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and the character of Tulsi? Why did you cast Sadhika, who has been unsuccessful in films, for the title role in your serial? Why did you not zero down on a new face? You are staging a comeback as an actor with Hamari Bahu Tulsiā¦ Why did you let the actor in you lie dormant for such a long time? Does it mean that you are bored of acting? Why have you not directed any show for the last several years? What else is 'Creative Eye' involved in? Your last show Jodi Kamaal Ki proved to be a disaster... What according to you is the future of television? |
Thieves on the sets of 'Betiyaan'!
The unit of the show 'Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan' (Zee), which is generally used to creating drama on screen, witnessed the same on their sets last week. The cast was shooting for a wedding sequence with Romit Raj (Yuvraj) and Jasveer Kaur (Kajari) at Filmcity far away from their usual sets at Andheri.
Since it was not their usual location for shooting, things were not too well-organised. Some props were kept outside, which caught the eye of two thieves who tried to run away with them late one evening.
Aarif Sheikh, head of production reveals, "We were all present at the site. We were busy carrying out our respective jobs when we heard some chaos. We thought that probably a leopard had attacked someone. When we flashed lights in the direction of the chaos, we saw two men running away with a trunk and some light equipment." He continues, "Some unit members and I ran towards them. But they had escaped before we could lay our hands on them. They were trespassers and not from our unit. Though we couldn't catch them, we were lucky that they left our things behind. "
A unit member reveals that thefts are a common occurrence at Filmcity. "Our complaints are not taken seriously," he rues. He adds, "The trunk contained expensive costumes, worth approximately Rs 70,000, which were to be used for the wedding sequence. Had they be stolen, we would have to wait for new ones to be designed and re-shoot the entire wedding sequence to match the continuity."
Gimme more: Twinkle Bajpai |
Recently, while shooting for the Zee show Betiyaan, Twinkle Bajpai and the rest of her reel family members were to sit together for dinner.
Twinkle, who plays Lakshmi in the show, was asked to offer veggies to her father-in-law.
Very fond of karela herself, she requested the director to actually keep real karele ki sabzi so that she could eat it too.
When the director refused, Twinkle refused to budge from her stance.
Eventually, the sabzi was called for and amidst sniggers from the unit members, the f-i-l was offered karele ki sabzi. Of course, Twinkle wasted no time in polishing off the fare after the shot was over!

Sai to replace Shishir in Betiyaan
Tantrums and Bollywood are often synonymous and it is also not unusual that upcoming actors would be throwing tantrums from time to time to prove their star worth. After all what is a star without liberal does of peevishness!
But it really cones as a surprise (or say shock) to learn that even senior actors often resort to such cheap means, God knows for what. If you don't believe this, let us tell you about a recent incident in the industry. The buzz is that Shishir Sharma, who essayed the role of Saraswati (Kshitee Jog) and Laxmi's (Twinkle Bajpai) father-in-law Nekchand in the Zee daily Ghar Ki Laxmi - Betiyaan, was asked to leave the show due to 'unprofessional conduct'.
Sai Bilal is now essaying the role. According to a close source in the unit, "Shishirji would always make unreasonable demands. He would refuse to sit and wait for very long and also throw tantrums about the temperature on the sets and over other minor issues. It was difficult to bow to his demands all the time".
When we got in touch with Shishir Sharma to know his side of the story, he consciously tried hard to evade the topic of tantrums and chose to give other reasons instead.
"I actually left, as I did not like the role and the way it was progressing. Before I joined, they told me something else and what I was doing was something else. So, it was a mutual decision to part ways," he asserted.
Surprisingly, even director Rajan Shahi refused to confirm rumours regarding Sharma's tantrums. Instead, Shahi too seemed to toe the line adopted by Shishir!
When contacted, Shahi said, "Shishir left because he was not happy with the role. He had a different image about the character he played. Unfortunately, the role turned out to be different."
Seems that after being a part of the industry for all these years, they, like many others, have mastered the diplomacy game and are adept in playing it well. Hence, the effort to cover up the mess and sent it under the carpet, while blaming the fiasco on the so-called 'creative differences'. But then, where is there smoke without fire?
Meanwhile, our source revealed, "It's a relief for everyone after Shishirji left. Now everyone is breathing easy."
Also thankfully, Sai Bilal, who has replaced the actor, is happy with his role. "I am happy with the role currently and let's see how it progresses later. I had a chat with Shishir and he explained me the role."
Looks like, as of now there is no room for tantrums any more.

Kshitee Jog aka Saraswati in Ghar Ki Laxmi Betiyaan just won't buckle under any sort of pressure. She's very firm about certain things and will stick to it, come what may. Apparently her parents had told her very strictly when she started acting never to succumb to such requests. Their fear is there will be several retakes for a shot, and that means their darling daughter will have to drink several times! |
