I'd forgotten Simti si, kyonki Parwana mujhe yaad nahi rehta as a Madan Mohan soundtrack 😳.
Some MDs had clear preferences, and disliked some singers or felt they didn't suit. OPN/Lata ka toh maloon hee hai sabko (though the reasons are still speculated to be different than what he said). Salilda and Anilda did not like Rafi much. Anilda of course swore by Talat and Salilda also used Talat/Mukesh/Mannada.
Ab Mausam jab nikla perhaps Kishore Kumar wasn't available and Bhupinder was? Idk.
I wish Salilda had used Rafi more. Unke Maya aur Madhumati ke songs are simply wow!
Mausam released in 1975, maybe due to ban on Kishore Da by Sanjay Gandhi, Gulzar ne risk nhi liya.
Yes, ye to starting se hota aaya, actors-MD-Lyricist-singers ki team ban jati thii, fir vohi sath me kaam krte thay, rarely kabhi out of tean jakar kuchh karte thay.
Ya, agar Madhumati me Rafi song hota to kya baat hoti

Madhumati mein do Rafi songs hain - Toote huye khwabon ne aur Jangal mein mor nacha. And it speaks about the genius of Rafi how he makes both sound so different, creating totally different moods for the two actors on screen. But yes, for the duets and Suhana Safar Salilda preferred to use Mukesh and Mannadey (Bichua).
Haan woh ek comfort quotient ban jaata hai team ka. So many teams start out strong and then break up too - like OPN- Geeta, OPN- Asha, SDB- Sahir (I will forever be sad about this 😭).
Ho sakta hai tumne jo kaha wohi sahi ho - Kishore Kumar ka ban jo hua tha emergency mein, that could be a reason. But then Aandhi came out in 1975 too, and KK has sung in all the songs in it. So idk, it may just have been the MDs choice. I must say though that Bhupinder sang beautifully in Mausam - this version of Dil Dhoondhta hai especially - so poignant and haunting
Another Madan Mohan - Kishore Kumar song from Bawarchi (1972) - this one has an ensemble playback though - he is joined by Mannadey, Lakshmi Shankar, Harindranath Chattopadhyay (Sarojini Naidu's brother) and Nirmala Devi (Actor Govinda's mother). Lyrics are by Kaifi Azmi
I came across this song for the first time while researching Khayyam songs. Beautifully sung by Rafi pictured on a very young Kanwaljeet. from an obsure movie called Shankar Hussain (1977). Lyrics are by Kamal Amrohi
Mousy main thoda research kar rahi thi.Originally posted by: anonymouse1
Yes Lata to unki fav thi but male singers me Rafi ko vo bahut pasand karte thay.
I wonder ki unhone Mausam me Kishore Da se kyun nhi gawaya?
Apparently Madan Mohan was very particular who would sing his songs. He was also very choosy about the projects he did. Unhone Har taraf ab yehi afsane ke liye Mannadey ko chuna bajay Rafi ke. Mannadey himself commented that it's a 'Rafi song', but MM was insistent that only Mannadey could sing it the way he wanted.
Also, Bhupinder was his discovery, so its possible as his mentor he used him for Mausam. It was his last soundtrack, he died without completing the background score, Salilda completed it. One of the tunes he had composed for Mausam - which was not used in the film- was later used in Veer Zaara (Tere liye)

In my case right now: Crosswords solve karne mein saari raat jayegi, humko bhi kaise neend aayegi 😋
