Chocolate Brownies
Ingredients:
3/4 cup margarine or butter, softened (180 ml / 1/3 pint)
1 cup sugar (240 gm / 8 oz)
3 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla extract (5 ml)
3/4 cup all purpose flour (110 gm / 4 oz)
1/3 cup cocoa powder (48 gm / 1 oz)
1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds) (30 gm / 1 oz)
how to make chocolate brownies:
- Melt the margarine or butter over low heat, allow to cool slightly.
- Add the sugar and stir till dissolved, followed by the vanilla and then the egg whites.
- Mix in the flour and the cocoa powder and finally add the nuts.
- Spread the batter in an 8" (20 cm) square greased baking pan.
- Bake at 325F or 160C for 25 minutes until edges are firm and the centre is done.
- Allow to cool and cut into squares.
