60g Brown Sugar

Ground nutmeg
Brown Sugar for sprinkling
MethodButter the bread slices and cut into quarters. Layer bread (butter sides upwards) sprinkled with raisins and sultanas in an ovenproof dish. Beat the eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla essence together. Pour gently over the bread and fruit. Sprinkle a little ground nutmeg over the top. Leave for half an hour for the custard to properly soak into the bread. Bake in a preheated oven 180C for approximately 1 hour until golden brown and set.
- Sprinkle more sugar over the top before serving.
NOTE:
- If you have time, gently boil the raisins and sultanas in a little orange juice before adding to the bread.
thanks. it is quite similar to other recipes except that they don't mention step 6, boil the dry fruit and brown sugar. will try this.
PS: aren't raisins and sultanas the same? 😳

Hi, no sultana and raisins are different. If I'm not mistaken raisins are dried red or black grapes and sultanas are dried white seedless grapes and they are larger than raisins.
Hope that helps 😊
