Director: Harry Baweja
Karan (Harman Baweja) is 23 year old boy who makes desperate attempts to get the attention of his rich father played by Dalip Tahil. Getting nothing in return from after his mother's death, the lad learns to live a life with his friends participating in adventure sports. And it is during one such adventure sport filled weekend he meets Sana (Priyanka Chopra). Over a weekend Karan charms the innocent sweet Sana who must now return back to her home town and Karan must return to Sydney. But in true Bollywood style Karan realizes he needs to go stop her the next day but by the time he gets to the station, Sana's train has already left. Now taking a hint from a butterfly which lands on the name of particular station, Karan follows Sana and begins searching for her.
Luckily for Karan, his uncle – the famous Dr. Yatinder Khanna (Boman Irani) lives in the same town. Uncle dearest is a scientist who is working on making a time machine that will allow humans to travel through time. Finally Karan meets Sana and the romance blossoms and soon enough the two are engaged to be married. Sadly for them life decides to step in and Sana meets with an accident and dies on the spot.
Grieving with the pain of losing the love of his life, Karan can think of nothing but Sana who is now dead. In the mean time scientist uncle gets his time machine going and is ready to use it to go back in time and prevent Sana's accident. Till then everything was just fine!
But now the time machine is stuck to go only to Mumbai 2050 as that was the last entry Sana had made before her accident. And Karan thinks that's where she will be and so the two head ahead in time where they come face to face with Sana's re-incarnation Zeisha (Priyanka Chopra). Now Zeisha has exactly the same face as Sana but that's it. She is in face the complete opposite of Sana in her like, dislikes and behaviour. But convinced that she is his Sana, Karan tries to get close to Zeisha and convince her that she is Sana. And hopefully take her back in time.
In terms of acting Harman has done a good job and you see his acting improve through the film. However unfortunately for him his great dancing and fit body means the comparisons to Hrithik Roshan are going to come flying from all corners. Priyanka in her avatar of Sana is bit too sweet to handle but as Zeisha she does a good job. The red hair actually suits her!
So finally is the film worth a trek to the cinema?
Sadly and disappointingly no because at the end of the day Love Story 2050 is like any other romantic story of a man who tries to salvage his love when his fianc dies in an accident. And for that he even goes from 2008 to 2050. Does that make sense? Not really… Did the Bawejas sell it well on the big screen? Not so sure about that either. Not because the idea or the story is bad – in fact quite the opposite.
But where things have gone slightly wrong is in its execution. Yes the special effects are great and so is the use of robots and flying cars. But sadly for Harry Baweja, selling a film in India solely based on its special effects, that too which come in only in the second half, is going to be a problem.
