It lacks decent story.
It lacks decent acting.
It lacks decent music.
In conclusion, it pretty much lacks everything that accounts for a good Bollywood movie.
Why would an angel drop down from heaven (if it exists) to solve the problems of a wealthy man? Why does "god" only have sympathy for these four orphaned kids and the rigid lonely businessman? What about the rest of the population that is starving? Those ailing starving kids definitely need angel Geeta's services more. Geeta comes with the mission to unite Ranbir and the kids - great! Why can't she resolve the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq in the same manner? Spread the love?
Judge Something-or-the-Other decides that Ranbir must take charge of being the guardian to the four kids since he is responsible for their parents' deaths. By Indian judiciary standards, this is considered punishment? If these are indeed the judiciary standards, one should haul this movie, its producers and directors to the court for portraying the legislature in such light.
Why are none of the kids adorable?!!?!? They look average, at best and their performances are none too exemplary. Exemplary is Ayesha Kapoor of Black, Darsheel Safary of TZP, and the kiddo in Pan's Labyrinth.
Saif and Rani are touted to be "par excellence" Bollywood actors - as is a one-eyed man in the land of the blind - but they both fall flat on their faces in TPTM. Saif supposed to play a humorless guy but he is rigid as board. Rani's been going downhill after Black. She either flashes a megawatt smile towards the camera or petulant scowls. With Hollywood par excellence actors such as Will Smith, Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie et al, you can at least expect decent acting - even if the script reeks of boredom - however, with Bollywood numero uno actors, decent acting seems to be too much to ask for. Let's not get started on Amisha whose clothes seem to be spray painted on her so much for her almost bearable acting in Bhool Bhulaiya. She gets the benefit of doubt as her character is very poorly fleshed out.
Trying to find decent music in the movie is equivalent of trying to find water in the Sahara. The tempo drags SO much that you're tempted to sleep on the shoulder of the stranger sitting next to you.
I'd say it was a good movie for kids but it's more of a childish attempt at moviemaking.
