There won't be a single soul who wouldn't have heard of the famous 'Seven Year Itch'. Well, for starters, it means the friction in the lives of a couple after they have completed seven years of the marriage. Predictability becomes the norm, boredom creeps in and the initial attraction fades off. It may not happen to all, but even the researches prove that it happens to most. For Sunil [Ranvir Shorey] and Malti [Konkana Sen], it was not the case of 'seven year itch'. It was the 'ten year itch'! Married for a decade, they had everything that a middle class family would have wanted in their lives. An apartment of their own, good jobs, a delightful kid, facilities and a social life. What they had started missing been the passion that brought the two together in their initial years. It's not that the two had stopped loving each other. They still spent time with each other, heard each other out and tried to lead a normal life. But how normal was their life anymore? Because the two missed an integral part of a marriage that works between a man and a woman - physical proximity! And even when they tried to get that spark back, it would inevitably turn into a funny (and animated) conversation! Picture this: Sunil steals into the bedroom, opens the drawer where they keep the scissors and hides it away under the bed. Then he double knots his pajama drawstring. When Malti arrives, he leaps upon her. "You want to?" she asks, surprised. Clearly, this hasn't happened in a while. "Of course," he replies. "Always." But they run into a snag. He cannot untie his pajama. She gets up to fetch the scissors. It isn't where it should be. She searches. He waits. The moment is gone. He heaves a sigh of triumphant relief. A formality of sorts, Sunil believes that he has done his 'job'. Meanwhile the frustration continues to pile up between the two as no communication helped them lead a normal life! Until an idea struck Sunil! He wants to do the unthinkable. And he wants Malti to give him full support for that. Because without her support, this plan would just fall flat on its face. What plan is this? Is this something to with a new way of romancing? Is it a vacation? Or is it a new outlook towards living life? Or is it about changing partners? Which in simple terms means 'wife swapping'! As expected, Malti is repelled by the idea. Sunil thinks that this is the best ever thing to be happening to them. She refuses. He tries to pacify her. She is shocked. He is thrilled. She agrees. And now the fun begins! A story about middle class couple in Mumbai, 'Mixed Doubles' is a Rajat Kapoor film. He had earlier directed 'Raghu Romeo' and now also acts in the movie opposite Koel Purie. A funny take on marriage, romance and living life 'differently', it is a movie which is one of its kinds and also stars Saurabh Shukla, Vinay Pathak and Naseeruddin Shah. 'Mixed Doubles' arrives your town pretty soon! |
