Ramesh Sippy produced the recently released BLUFFMASTER that was a decent hit at the box-office. The film was directed by his son Rohan Sippy and featured Nana Patekar and Abhishek Bachchan in the pivotal roles. The two talented stars shared a good rapport in the film much to the delight of the people.
Ramesh Sippy produced TAXI NO 9211 is now ready to hit the marquee soon and again features Nana Patekar in a definitive role, this time he's gonna share the screen with one of today's leading stars John Abraham. The film is directed by Milan Luthria (of KACHCHE DHAAGE fame) and written by Rajat Arora who had also co-written BLUFFMASTER, while Rohan Sippy acts as the co-producer.
Two. It's an interesting number. Two sides of a coin, two halves in a day, two ways to look at life, two guys in our story… and two hours in which to tell it. Two hours that tells the story of a day in the life of two opposites.
Raghav Shastri (Nana Patekar), an Insurance Salesman to the world, but a caustic, instinctively witty cabbie in reality, who needs thirty thousand rupees by the end of today…
And Jai Mittal (John Abraham), the equally acidic and heir to a resourceful business family but need a bit more. Three hundred crores actually. Also by the end of the day.
Jai needs to contest his father's will in court and Raghu's cab to get there. Raghu needs every rich sucker he can get as passenger…
So the two meet.
And a predictable cab ride kicks off a roller-coaster journey that leaves you laughing in a most unlikely place. The edge of your seat.
Because on either side of the seat that divides them are our two problems.
Two attitudes, two egos, and two distinctive brands of humour.
The film has cinematography by the LA based Kartik Vijay who makes his Hindi film debut here. Vishal Shekhar who did the foot-tapping numbers for DUS and BLUFFMASTER has tuned the music for the film. The seasoned Dev Kohli has penned the lyrics and the songs sung by the talented Adnan Sami. The quintessential Disco King Bappi Lahiri has sung the catchy number 'Mumbai Nagariya' and this is for the first time that Bappi has sung for a music director other than himself.
Nana has had a good time recently as APAHARAN and BLUFFMASTER have done well at the box-office. Hence, TAXI NO 9211 is crucial at this point of time for him as its box-office success can be a great gratification and also he is acting for the first time alongside the macho John Abraham, so it's got a tinge of anticipation. John will also be looking forward to TAXI… after his performance in ZINDA has been appreciated by critics and audience alike. And also this is Milan Luthria's next film after the critically acclaimed prisoners of war drama DEEWAR that starred Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. So a lot's in store with TAXI NO 9211, it appears!
