Hey Guys!
This is a little one shot for the series 'Zindagi Mere Ghar Aana' previously on Star Plus. As that forum is not quite active now, I decided to post this here on the Fan Fictions Forum!!
TW: Mention of minor character death, last rights, grief, guilt-tripping, finding love again after the death of a spouse (minor character.) (Note at the end)
LET'S BEGIN
Title: A Window to her heart
27/08/2022
It had been two months since Karan's last rights were performed. For a few days after, the typical banter, the reverberating laughter that day after day had captured the hearts of the Sakhuja family and sent the kirayedar into a frenzy, had disappeared. After all, the last rights ritual had brought back horrifying memories of what had been snatched from them, not that they hadn't, time and again, gone back and forth those painful memories previously, but because the bitter truth had suddenly become so real.
But like every cloud has a silver lining, this situation too brought with it something good. As reality dawned upon them, coming to terms with it and cutting cords that no longer served them in a healthy way had become somewhat more manageable.
After those few solemn days, life started getting back to normal. The colors of the Sakhuja family started returning and the coos and cries of Ansh had once again started becoming a source of joy. But there was something that had drastically changed in these two months.
For the very first time, she had opened the window to her heart, unlike the window to her room that she did on a daily basis. She had also subconsciously not looked at or spoken to Karan's photograph framed honorably on the wall for the first time but had decided to open her window first. She had not just let the sudden, cool and refreshing gust of wind in but also let the descending figure of the kirayedar settle in her line of vision.
On a different day, she would've justifiedly turned away from him but today she let a gentle and genuine smile play on her lips of their own accord. On any other day, she would've reprimanded herself for this behavior but today she was ridden out of the guilt that she would've otherwise cursed herself with.
She thought to herself, 'Maybe it is not wrong to live a little, is it?'
'It's not. You're free. You always were.' Said a quiet intuitive voice in her head, that she solely attributed to Karan.
---- THE END ----
NOTE: The perspective on the themes in the OS that might be perceived as sensitive, is solely mine and I have no intention to hurt or offend anyone's feelings or point of view.
Some Context:
The main female protagonist, Amrita, lost her spouse, Dr. Karan, a Covid warrior, to Covid. The story shows the grief she and her in-laws go through for not having got to complete his last rights due to struggles of getting his remains from the authority. Finally, they get the opportunity to do so with the help of the main male protagonist, Pritam who is the Kirayedar, with whom Amrita has a complicated relationship (Mostly 'hate at first sight and later respect + liking alongside self-guilt trip because she still loved her husband ' wala relationship.)
